They have been spoonfed this drivel since the diaper and know nothing else.

How come, since these people are so passionate about their religion that their children didn't think twice that naming a bear was so insulting to their religion?

This is clearly a case of certain parents turning this is into something sinister and she has become a political pawn....shame on them.

Rent a crowd are now calling for her execution and she has been moved for her own safety

Or as I would say...These people are ruined for life. They have been spoonfed this drivel since the diaper and know nothing else. The chances are slim to none that they will ever overcome their ignorance or improve their lot.

These people are where they belong and deserve to be.

It's clear that Sudan is in need of a reformation (with a lowercase r), although your position isn't consistent. On one hand you're noting that people (Sudanese protesters in this case) come to these absurd conclusions because they've been unfortunate enough to grow up in an environment that condones, for example, death for misnaming a teddy bear. But you're also saying that they deserve to be there.

There are myriad examples of what people will do to each other if they're convinced that their actions are justified. Obviously religion is one of the major fuels, but so is tribalism, need to belong, poverty, desperation, and so on. But even in supposedly civilized societies, it doesn't take long for things to break down (Holocaust) or for previously well adjusted people to carry out sadistic acts without a whole lot of prodding (Stanford Prison and Milgram experiments). It's a human trait to be brainwashed into justifying appalling behavior.

The human conscience is a fragile thing. I think that's the scariest aspect of our species--the fragile conscience. I don't think that there are that many truly evil people in the world, but a majority who would do questionable things given the right (wrong) circumstances.

I don't think deserve is the right word here.

Such a shame, the whole event is really sad. I certainly am not taking any sides, but I guess maybe in future people will consider maybe sending a note home to the parents about having a classroom vote regarding naming the bear (for example) and have the parents make suggestions on what they think would be appropriate. I guess that, unfortunately, it would be the only way to avoid the reaction that the teacher got.

Clearly the teacher was trying to do something fun and innocent with the kids - I highly doubt her aim was to upset the entire religious establishment...it's too bad that those people cannot take a step back and realize it was an innocent mistake on her part.

It seems to me they are trying to make an example of her, when really their biggest beef was with those people who were making characatures of their prophet. I suspect if they sat back, calmed down a little, and thought about it, they would realize it was not meant to offend anyone and that demanding her execution might be just a TAD of an overreaction ;)

THEY named the teddy bear.

I'd like to offer the following suggestion to the "protesters": Go F##k Yourselves.

I just did this huge 36 page investigative report on Sudan for my International Laws class.

It's this fundementalist Islamic regim coming into power in Sudan after WWII and the decolonization of Africa that begun their first civial war and their second civil war (which is still going on) and the main reason behind Darfur genocide and then spilling over the boarders into Chad and causing the Chad and Sudan War. It goes back to the tribalism mentality.

In some ways this same regim is rearing it's head in Iraq and other places. It seems out of chaos and disorder they rise to bring order but in an extreme form.

As for the case of this teacher I've given it much thought.

While I don't agree with it and believe it's a violation of human rights I respect state soverginty.

And I would like to point out that if the teacher knew the history of this reason and that they were in a state of perpetual civil war and one of those fractions being Fundemental Islamics then she also knew the risks she was taking going there.

Just like I wouldn't enter Iraq right now because their in the middle of a war with resurgents.

Most people deserve the life they make for themselves. If they are happy with it, so be it.

It's not my way of life, so I'm just saying "to each their own." If they don't rain on my parade...I won't rain on theirs. I have zero plans to ever go to Sudan and could care less how they want to live their lives in their country. It's their country. I hope they stay out of the USA with their jihad. I'll leave it at that!

I like that, "rent a crowd".

But it's so true, the type of mob mentality that can happen when people get all riled up about something.

I am surprised there are no punishments being called out against the boy who picked the name in the first place. I am very glad there aren't, but surprised since he is a Muslim boy who picked the name...wouldn't that be even more outrageous to the ones calling for the teacher's death? I could see people saying his parents didn't raise him right, and that they should be punished too. But anyone hear that yet? Like I said I wouldn't want that to happen, but surprised it hasn't. I think it's bias against the teacher.

I'm guessing many people there were wishing that was not the life they had...and what choices do they have to change that? I am not talking about extremists, I am talking about the people caught in the middle who have nothing to do with it. They don't deserve the life they have but they have no other choice at the moment.

Yeah. Apologist or not. Is anyone shocked?

I can't even believe this...what a bunch of idiots. Maybe next they should start protesting about men named Mohammed.

Christians could get their own protest by ranting at people named Jesus
