Start learning Tagalog . You'll be respected a LOT more by everyone there if you can speak their language.

Learn it well tho as you can get in trouble just knowing a little.

I will also respect you BIGTIME if you make the move.

Easy to shine your lady on and move on to another.

i have yet to even read of anyone who became a philippines citizen from the USA while going there to live and retire with their filipina wife.

It takes a major contribution to Philippine society and a special act of Congress for an alien to become a Filipino citizen. Below is an example.

I guess the best thing for me to do is move to Pi to be with me girl. I would like all the info from any guys that have done this. What is involved with being able to live there. I have enough money for a few years and have already been offered a job. So any advise would be helpfull. Thanks
How nice to hear from foreign people who wants to move and live in PHI...Goodluck and just take care!!!

There are a lot of expats living in the Philippines. Just about every major city I went to had an active expats group.

I am seriously thinking about moving back to Ayala Alabang. Buddy called with an offer today that is almost too hard to refuse. It would be so much easier for me and my SO to be together, when I lived there last year, getting visa extensions for her were a piece of cake. We can marry in Thailand and then move to the Phils, I would have a PEZA Visa (Philippine Economic Zone Authority) for 1 year and she would get the same.....

I am going to think about it over the weekend, talk to my SO about it and see what happens.

I MISS SE ASIA, hate living in the States..........................especially during an election year....LOL

Venture in Business is good for you my friend... Apply for Dual Citizenship so you gain Filipino Citizenship and also not loose your American Status.

As for gaining Filipino Citizenship.. You can venture in types of businesses and buy lands as well..

Some businesses I can suggest you are..

Resort (Pool or Beach) It doesn't matter.. Filipinos like FUN!!

Franchise a Fast Food Chain Like Jollibee or Mc Donald's..

Sports Bar.. I don't know about this, But I don't see any in the Philippines.

Good Luck!!

sorry to correct you again, but he cant be a philippines citizen. they dont allow it. the best he can do is become a permanent resident and it is so expensive to do that no one does it. he can have a business but he cant own the major share. his wife will have to own 60% of it. Also he cant own land there, but his wife can. so theres no such thing as the USC having dual citizenship with the phils. the phils have very exact rules on what a foreigner can and cant do or own etc. he can setup a business and have it in his wife's name. his best bet is to open up a internet cafe. there are a number of websites that are for US citizens living in the phils that he can search out and they will give him great info and help him out. Dual Citizenship is only allowed with natural born filipinos who have citizenship with another country. they dont allow foreigners to have citizenship.

here is an earlier post on the subject .

VJ topic, foreign citizenship in philippines

you both might want to read this other thread and the posts there and links in the topic.

Chris

Anybody , even a US citizen , can become a Filipino citizen IF he is able to meet and comply with all the requirements prescribed by Philippine laws on becoming a Filipino Citizen. It is a long process, a lot of requirements BUT he can apply for Filipino Citizenship as long as all the requirements are complied with.

Removal of Conditions :

August 16, 2010 - Petition received by USCIS Vermont Center

August 20, 2010 - NOA1 received

October 4, 2010 - Biometrics

January 3, 2011 - Permanent 10 yr. Green Card Received.
