Just wondering if one can get a book published and derive an income off of that before their EAD comes? Or is that considered employment? Lord knows, I can write a book and get it published before they ever look at my application...

I HATE miles, gallons, pints, words spelled without u's, and all that other jazz...

I have a feeling this is not a serious question BUT ... if you're getting money from it, and it comes from work, I would assume that would be considered employment. Not sure, though.

But you can always SELF-publish a book....

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

I would imagine being published constitutes self employment so cannot see why it would not be legal. I, and many others, have performed contract work prior to receiving permanent residency. I'm sure a good publisher would be familiar with this type of situation and would be able to advise you. All the best.

Being a published writer is not likely considered employment (in the context of what I think you're asking), it is rather a profession (self-employment). Royalties (even advances) is income and would likely be (in the US) reported on a 1099 unless something different is set up.

Good idea.

Is the USC going to be the front?

By the sounds of it, I think she'd have to be.

Thank you Krikit. I've always wanted to write a book. I get stuck with writer's block though. My wife usually has to give me ideas and then I'm able to go from there. It's just getting the original idea. I have too many and can't settle on one. :( I guess my idea would be illegal though. Thanks for your help.

Ok thank you. It would probably still be illegal eh?
