Keeping a loaded gun in an easily accessible area to a child is pure stupidity.

In many locales it is also a prosecutable criminal offense (as it should be).

But the same thing (stupidity) could be said about parents that leave poisons, medicines, and swimming pools accessible to vulnerable children. However, I wouldn't label everyone that does this as stupid. I would prefer ignorant, inattentive, or irresponsible.

The needless death of a child due to parental inattention is always tragic. The parents must live with the guilt for the rest of their lives.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

How about 50 and 100 years ago? Were the idiots back then reproducing more than the intelligentsia?

If so, how do you explain all the progress since?

Education is more readily available today. Of course, educated idiots are still idiots,

but they can contribute to society in meaningful ways -- hence the progress.

Poor countries are those with the lowest levels of education. Almost half of the population

of the poorest countries is illiterate, and in some of these countries three quarters or more

of the people are unable to read and write.

It is hard to imagine a kid being able to pull the trigger on a double action pistol. I guess if it was a .45 and already cocked and the kid pointed it at his chest and pulled the trigger with his thumbs, then that is possible.

Still, I barely have any memories of when I was 3 and no real concept of how guns really worked until 14+.

Hard to blame a 3 year old, but I'm sure the parents will be charged.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Looks like Darwin took care of this one.

I kind of think you're not being serious here - but all the same - my limited understanding of child development tells me that the under 5's are pretty prone to accidents, which is why there is this whole concept of "adult supervision" ;)

The kid was three years old. If I'm reading you right, I fail to see the humour, sorry.

So? I'm pretty sure I knew what a gun was when I was three.

And understood the difference between 'toy' and 'real'. And, further, 'loaded' and 'unloaded'. Good for you for your survival. We would miss witty quips about dead three year olds otherwise.

Better a 3-year-old than a 30-year-old.

I hope for their own sake that you don't have kids....

I second that.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

3 year olds have no concept if a gun is real or not.....

i take it you don't have a lot of experience with 3 year olds

I think most toddlers are generally incompetent as far as common-sense is concerned. Must be why my parents wouldn't let me drive their car at that age...
