3-Year-Old Dies From Suspected Self-Inflicted Gunshot

KENOSHA, Wis. -- A 3-year-old boy in Kenosha died Thursday after playing with a loaded handgun and shooting himself, police said.

Joshua Lesnick was pronounced dead at St. Catherine's Hospital Thursday morning after being rushed there for a gunshot to the chest.

Joshua's mother told police she was in a second-floor bathroom of her Pleasant Prairie home when she heard a "bang" sound. She said she went into her bedroom and found Joshua on the floor. She called for rescue and began CPR.

It is believed that Joshua found a .40-caliber semiautomatic pistol that was kept in a bedside table and accidentally shot himself, Sgt. Eric Larsen with the Kenosha Police Department said in a statement.

On the local news last night. Tragic.

Keeping a loaded gun in an easily accessible area to a child is pure stupidity.

It is. It's also a shame, in my opinion, that the parent felt the need to have a loaded gun at home in the first place. But that's my anti-gun bias showing there.

Looks like Darwin took care of this one.

The kid was three years old. If I'm reading you right, I fail to see the humour, sorry.

So? I'm pretty sure I knew what a gun was when I was three.

And understood the difference between 'toy' and 'real'. And, further, 'loaded' and 'unloaded'. Good for you for your survival. We would miss witty quips about dead three year olds otherwise.

Better a 3-year-old than a 30-year-old.

Don't be so angry. I don't - and not planning on having any, either.

Does Darwinian selection also imply that the offspring of less fit parents are more likely to not reproduce (because they died or ended up in jail or whatever) than the offspring of fit parents?

Sadly, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Idiots reproduce at a much higher rate than intelligent people.

In that case, is it possible that the so-called intelligentsia are the real idiots?

Or was Darwin wrong?

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.
