Engagement Ring Receipt

Ok I am going to try to make this short and sweet as possible. August 2005 my fiance was told by his attorney that his divorce was done. Well low and behold she made an error on his divorce paperwork and it was just finalized on March 20, 2006. I was up there September 1st and at that time we thought his divorce was overwith. He bought me a ring while I was there and proposed. I was going to send in a copy of the receipt but I thought it might look weird that he bought me a ring before his divorce was actually finalized. Do you think I should just leave it out of the packet and bring with me to the interview in case they ask?

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

I would think that if he is seperated from his spouse at the time he bought you the ring this would be ok. You can explain it that way during the interview.

I personally don't think the ring reciept is necessary -- wearing the ring itself is more important, methinks! I took the receipt with me to the visa interview and wasn't asked for it.

We didn't even get officially engaged until after I already had my K-1 visa... never had a ring during the interview.... I wouldn't worry about the receipt at all.

I didn't have reciept and actually wear ring on wrong finger as it didnt fit correct finger

So long as you have plenty of evidence of relationship etc I really wouldn't worry about this at all.

I have the reciept but not the ring cos mine needs to be re-cast - I have tiny fingers

Im taking the receipt tho - as for the timing - an engagement is not an official/legal standing - its a socially aceptable tradition that the person WISHES to marry you.

Marriage is the legal part and as long as both parties are legally free to marry AT THE TIME OF THE CEREMONY that is the important thing.

I know a person who was 'engaged' BEFORE their divorce was even started.

Don't worry about it.

I'd say either way. My ring was an heirloom so there was no receipt. As long as you have heaps of OTHER evidence it will be fine.

I don't think that you have anything to worry about. My divorce was finalized January 24, 2006, I purchased my fiancee's engagement ring around October 2005 and went to China in November 2005 to propose to her. I sent my engagement ring receipt into the Nebraska location, the K1 Fiancee visa was approved through them, just waiting on Guangzhou. I was separated from my ex since 2003 so I don't really think that the date on the receipt matters all that much.

I don´t have a ring receipt either, and I know many didn´t send one. Maybe for the interview you can bring it, as then you can explain he was separated even if not legally divorced.

I'm going through Vietnam so we have to have a receipt or they will Blue Slip her. They are super insane in Vietnam.
