hello all,

actually I just got CRIS email yesterday saying my wife's EAD is approved. I wanted to go to SSA office as soon I recieve the EAD card, but a friend of mine told me that it is better to wait atleast 2 weeks before applying for SSN. is this correct..?? how did you guys do it..?? pls share your thoughts..

You can apply anytime after you have the necessary documents to present to the SSA office. The delay is getting the USCIS system and the SSA system to be synchronized and thus the two week reccomendation.

Wait 2 weeks form any immigrations status change before attempting to get SSN, it takes that long for USCIS to update SAVE database system used by the SSA employee to confirm immigrations status. Visiting SSA so soon after getting notified will just be a waste of your time.

HI, You can apply for SSN already even if you dont have EAD. When I applied for SSN the officer just got the copy of our marriage certificate, copy of my passport and Form I-94.

Yes, but you were K-1 while the OP is K-3... Two diferent sets of rules

You can apply once you get the EAD. SSA will still wait for confirmation from the USCIS before issuing the card

Nancy And I got our marriage license on friday as soon as we got our butts to Houston and then waited the weekend to get married on Monday

As soon as we got married, the next day we got a copy of the marriage certificate, remember this is not even two weeks into her being in the US. we waited about 14 days from her POE entry and then she went down to the SSA office and got her SSN in her married name. We did it that way so the only thing left to do is go back and get it changed once she gets GreenCard (AOS) to have the "DHS Authorization required" removed.
