Maybe they are a symbol of Western/American decadence? Who knows what's up with teddy bears...

Actually, they are. The "Teddy Bear" is named for Theodore Roosevelt, the first great American Imperialist.

brother russ ..right on..although, the American indians would disagree and suggest it started with george washington

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

And you think the dimwits in Sudan that charged her know that?

Still not funny.

You can dress it up in political correctness and quasi-humanist rhetoric all you like,

but some of us know the truth.

What truth is that?

To say that everyone from a certain part of the word has not evolved is more than just politically incorrect. You, sir, are a bigot.

Culturally evolved, Jenn, not physically -- I'm not saying they're one evolutionary step away from ** Neanderthalensis.

OMG! Did anyone read the comments on that article?!? Wow, I've rarely read such blatant cultural and religous hatred... these comments are not really about the Sudanese govt. they are all about the religion in general... it made me sick to my stomach to read.. where's that barffy smily when you need it?

Cultural evolution doesn't take millions of years, Jenn, it only takes hundreds (of years.)

Do you know how brutal and violent England was only 300 years ago?

So the entire Arab world is uncivilised, right?

It's so disturbing that you can say things like this nowadays and people don't bat an eye.

Let us not forget the extremely high murder rates throughout the United States. Some may say that's uncivilised. The entire world has a long way to go, not just the mid east.

I may find it outrageous, but I won't go as far as saying the laws/people/government of the country are not evolved. It's a very different culture and I don't understand it well enough to consider myself entitled to form an opinion about it.

Well, I will say it. I am not speaking out against the religion, but rather the country. A country whose GOVERNMENT is SPONSORING GENOCIDE.

Therefore, I don't really care that they find a teddy bear named Mohammed to be offensive. I think it's outrageous and until they decide to stop allowing the Janjaweed to commit such atrocities on the people of Darfur and stop financially aiding them, then I definitely won't try to care. Genocide is not "a cultural difference" it's murder and it's morally wrong. In any religion or culture.

ETA: to fix the mistakes my passion caused :)

Do you have a tenth of that outrage for a woman being sent to prison for naming a teddy bear the most common name in the world?

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills.
