i think it is bizarre and a stupid sentence for a non crime

It's a crime by every definition of the word. US and Europe do NOT govern the entire world.

lol...are you Muslim?

I am ..and i think it is not a crime..as it was not done with malicious intent towards the prophet (pbuh)

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Should the teacher have known that naming a bear "Mohammad" in a Sudanese classroom might evoke a defensive/negative response from the parents? Probably. Did she do it to promote religious hatred? Highly unlikely. Do the Sudanese have the right to arrest and jail her for this infraction? Probably. Should they do so in the light of the further negative impact this will have of the Sudan around the world? Probably not.

It was a group of parents who raised this from an in school incident to a 'hate crime' incident. If this was the last in a long line of incidents that displayed the teacher's negativity to their religion, then they might have a point. However, if this is as it appears, a genuine 'mistake' (if naming a teddy bear Mohammad can ever be seen as a sign of disrespect and hate) these parents are displaying some very paranoid behaviors and it does seem somewhat odd that the judicial system in the Sudan would play along to it.

However, the teacher at Unity High School in Khartoum will probably be cleared and released soon, a spokesperson for the Sudanese embassy in London said.

"I am pretty certain that this minute incident will be clarified very quickly and this teacher who has been helping us with the teaching of children will be safe and will be cleared," Khalid al-Mubarak told BBC radio.

"Our relationship with Britain is so good that we wouldn't like such a minute event to be overblown.''

Sudan's Foreign Ministry yesterday played down the significance of the case, calling it "isolated."

So much for that then!

15 days in jail is 15 days in jail. I pray for that woman's safety whilst in jail.

This is crazy, unevolved, gross and abnormal, etc.........

unevolved?

If I said that, Mags would ban me :(

Heh, but in this case, it fits.

I don't even think it's a real word, but still.....

I hope every expat living in Sudan now thinks twice about staying.

It was her decision, it was the kid's suggestion. Now that we've cleared the small stuff...

Well, those are the laws of the Sudan. And last time I checked, it's a sovereign nation, isn't it? Not my place to ponder or judge about their fairness.

Really? Ok, in that case, let's not have anymore judging of American domestic policies by any other nation.
