lol...i normally try to refrain from comments of this type, but you didn't seem like you would get offended.. lol

My mother used to giggle when she would hear someone say something as stupid as "It wouldn't go in" when talking about a general topic..

Oh and my mother in law is worse! lol She talks freely about men and women's privates, to the point where i get embarrassed! lol

I dont believe that platinum comes in carats like gold....but it is tough as nails harder than gold, so my guess on the ring is that you just hit it at a bad angle where the head meets the band. when you do take it in, also have them check all of the stones in the ring, cause banging it up may have loosened the stones around it.

i worked in jewelry for over 2 years.....plus i just love those damn sparkly things!

I aint cool enough for a signature.....

platinum tends not to be 100% platinum. They mix other metals with it to make it stronger. Now, some people prefer the more malleable metal so they can do more with it. Other people prefere the stronger platinum because it is, of course, stronger.

There tend to be two grades of platinum, a higher grade and a lower grade. The higher grade is of course more expensive and it really reflects also on how the ring was made.

You should ask the jeweler about the grade of platinum your ring is made from and also how the actual ring was made, that will give you the answer re strength.

If you find that you are doing a lot of activities that may knock your ring you may want to think about having the diamond remounted in a stronger platinum alloy...or just be a little bit more careful when you wear your ring while doing certain activities.

Lisa, any news on the ring yet? I hope they can fix it for ya, sweetie, maybe they can widen it a bit at the same time so the licking/vaseline isn't needed any more??

Platinum is less ductile than gold but still ductile.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Dunno how the hell it happened either!

One minute....I'm inside a store...whinging over the price of this phone I bought...the salesguy says something about me bitching about something silly when I got such a nice ring on my finger....I look at the ring & very cheekily say 'yeah my baby done good'

An hour later, I look at my finger.....the mount is completely bent! And unwearable!

#######?!? Isnt' platinum like uberstrong? How the hell could I have done something like this & not notice it?

I will only go to one jewler...someone my father's dealt with for like ages...but he's been so busy (to him, this is like peanuts or something) so he's been putting me off for TWO MONTHS!

Gettin it fixed tomorrow!

Platinum is a natural precious metal, it can bend. I believe you are thinking of titanium, which is very light, and very strong (though still can be broken), a man made composite metal.

ditto - I hope it is easily fixed

It depends on the amount of other metals put there to make it solid. 18K gold bens easier but it´s more pure gold. 24K gold is really really pure gold but will bend away for nothing.

Platinium must be the same.

the important thing is that you noticed it and did not lose the stone when it was hit. some reading i did about engagement rings says that one should check the ring to see if the stones are loose about once a week.
