Hello everyone. Thought I would introduce myself. I've lurked around for some time now and decided to speak up finally. I'm Steph from Ohio. I met my sweetie on Yahoo at the end of March '07. I'm 35 and my Moroccan man is 31 from Kenitra. After chatting online for several months with him, I booked my trip to see him. I was in Morocco for almost two weeks this November and stayed with him and his family in their home. I felt so welcome there. We fell in love. We have pledged to be married someday. Bought commitment rings for each other. Now the long process begins. Any advise? I would like to have things right from the beginning for us to be together as man and wife here in Ohio. I've kept receipts, have photos of us together, etc. From what I have read though, you can do everything right and still have snags. I appreciate your wisdom. Thanks.

Welcome, we're glad to have you here :) Best advice I can give is have lots of patience, because the visa process can be very trying on a relationship. There will be days when you think it will never end, but it will. And the wait will have been worthwhile. That being said, I hope your process is quick and painless :)

And as Im sure everyone else will advise, be sure to keep your timeline filled in and always consult the Guides. They are both very useful

Welcome! :star:

Don't worry too much--there are lots of us around here who survived the process and now have our loved ones with us, or soon to be with us!

Be sure to ask if you have any questions :) .

Hi, Steph! Welcome! Best advice is to be patient with each other and the process. As you already know long distance can be stressful at times, and waiting on USCIS can make it worse some days. If you can try to schedule a visit during the process it can really help the both of you.

Yes, some times things go wrong. But by far the go right most of the time. Just be organized with your paper work and evidence and always ALWAYS make copies, and mail forms with delivery confirmation or return reciept for peace of mind.

Welcome to VJ. We hope your journey is short and easy. When you are ready to file the petition, ask any specific questions after following the guides as best you can. I followed them line by line when I submitted my husband's application for his green card, and we got right through. Keep an exact copy of what you submit in case your packet is lost.

The one thing I will suggest, and I don't know if it's in the guides or not now, is to send a copy of your fiance's birth cert with translation and his passport. At the time I applied, the birth certificate was not on the VJ list, and many were getting requests (RFE) for it from USCIS. An RFE can delay your case by 30 days or more. :crying: I had used an attorney and he had required it as part of the packet. (I had not found VJ yet).

Hope to see you around POSTING and not LURKING anymore!

Hope you have done your homework. You are dealing with one of the meanest consulates in the state department. Almost two weeks together aint gonna hack it at the interview. You need to make more trips, or spend more time together.

Youre in for a long wait.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

Welcome to VJ! We are glad to see you here! My advice is besides having tons of patience, is to start collecting proof during your time spent waiting. Down the road you will need that proof at the interview. Send snail mail and cards if able, use calling cards that log dates, family letters and cards etc, emails, anything you can think of as time goes along that will prove you are a couple. This will help establish proof when you really need it. Just be patient and try not to let it stress you out!
