So you think the flight out of your country is the promised land at last eh ?

Well I am now known as 'Mr Temporary' and I am waiting and waiting

I entered at Chicago on my IR1 on November 5 and I now I now have:

Temporary green card (the line in the visa that driver's license people etc don't recognize without an argument)

Temporary driver's license (they took my Wisconsin license away November 14 and gave me a bit of paper and said I would get a Florida license 'When the USCIS have checked my visa is genuine'

Temporary plates on my new Toyota bought November 10

Temporary SS card yet (my existing one from k1 is endorsed for 'no work')

Still waiting for my 'secured' VISA credit card (10 days now and they said it would be dispatched same day and after follow ups)

Temporary check book - 9 checks

My trouser measurement is temporary too with all this cheap wine and buffalo wings

I am amazed I wake up each morning in my temporary apartment as my lease on life is entirely temporary

The USCIS still have their claws in me.

It ain't over til it's over, and it ain't over, so be ready for some ripples when you arrive....

Given my bumpy passage along this highway, the chances of this lot arriving, and with the right name, and with the right dates, is unthinkable and will keep me busy until love bug time in late spring

Hi,

I think it wont be over for more 2 years, until you do the AOS to get the 10 year green card and then eventually get the Naturalisation. I guess life is never over... its just we start it again like we are having a new birth. That is how I will take it , when I first keep my feet in the US.... I would be born again on that moment.

That is strange from a person arriving on IR-1 Visa..

plus the water company in england sent me a bill for £550 (1100 US) - mistaken meter reading i hope - and the return deposit for my UK house was sent by the managers to the landlord 'by mistake'.

It was sent again to my bank account 4 days ago but has not arrived.

The gas company took 2 weeks of emails to recognize my account - I eventually sent them a screen shot of my bank 'bill pay' which i used to pay them every quarter before they would admit i was one of their customers...

It seems that horrible administration problems are not confined to the USA or even the USCIS which is reassuring in an odd way.

On the other hand I hope my mother (93) doesnt get sick as I hardly dare visit outside the US until I receive all this stuff.

Both my car registration plates and driver's license will expire in a week or two and as for the temporary car title !!!

Actually I am counting my blessings (a 2 meg connection over the supposedly 15 meg cable)

I thought I would ease my mind and go throw peanuts to the squirrels but the 'condo committee ' interviewed me for one and a half hours (and charged me $25 to be interviewed) and said that was forbidden along with 15 sheets of other rules.

I would sit in the bath and get drunk instead but they might have me on cctv

Alan,

I gotta say this and I mean it seriously, this post has made me laugh all the while as I read it. Not at your problems, as we all have them, but at the sense of humor you have amassed to keep sane in this world/

The condo committe and the squirrel, omg Im sorry on the floor. about good as our government and redefining immigration control.....out of order

Good luck mate

just to clarify, it is not a "temporary" green card but a "conditional" green card... it works exactly the same way as a regular 10 year green card though....

oops, you are an IR1 so you will get a 10 year green card... no conditions at all...

We're all in the same boat....With the same idiotic, micro/corporate bureaucrats....

However, in my experience nothing has ever surpased the stupidity of bureaucracy in India. Where it takes 5 bank managers to cash one travellers check.

All of it is a lesson to teach patience and endurance (to maintain your sanity).

This is so funny! I needed that laugh. Not laughing at you, but at the way in which its is all so true, you can't help but laugh at the ridiculousness of it. Thanks for that! :jest:

Hi,

Alan atleast your lucky to be with the love of your life.... which is far far more important than all the "Temporary" List you mentioned.

I wish I was there with my loved ones... with all those conditional tags... I would still grab that opportunity with both hands.
