I'm just wondering since my biometrics was last Wednesday, shouldn't there be some kind of case update by now? Wouldn't my file have been sent to a different place by now? Or do they just put your case on the shelf after fingerprints and wait a few months?

I HATE miles, gallons, pints, words spelled without u's, and all that other jazz...

You won't necessarily see an update, especially this soon after biometrics. Seeing no online updates doesn't mean your case has been shelved. And the holiday weekend may have slowed some things down. I know that's not much comfort, though, when you're waiting in the dark. (F)

Thank you. That is a bit of comfort. I just thought that we'd see an update quickly. Maybe my case will just be processed where it is? Or do they always send it to a different office?

Your case will either be sent to CSC or your local office. If it is sent to CSC, it usually tells you so on your case status online, it seems however, if you're case is transfered to your local office, your case "status" will not change and you will simply receive an interview letter in the mail.

It is going through the FBI background checks and all other law enforcement agencies USCIS uses after that biometrics appointment, if all goes well and no hits on your name then you will get transferred or interview set up within a month, if not it could be delayed. So relax and enjoy the wait.

If that is true then please explain to me how my wife's file was transferred BEFORE her biometrics appointment?

YMMV

Ditto. My case was transferred the day before biometrics.

They're two different things going on here. The biometrics appointment is based on your local offices, while your case is sitting at the national office waiting in line to go where they decide it should go. If your local office is backed up, it will take longer to get an appointment. If they aren't, you might have your biometrics way before they can do anything with your file. So, now it's just a waiting game to see if AOS gets transferred to CSC or to your local office. Don't worry...they have your file and they'll do something with it soon.

Could be luck, could be random draw, could be one of many things, except that it was not the result of her name and fingerprints having transited and successfully cleared the FBI background checks as a result of her biometrics appointment, which was previously mentioned as the trigger point for the transfer or interview scheduling.

I realize that. It was just my sense of humour at work. While we're on the subject of FBI background checks, haven't they already done that before they approved the K1 visa?

Unfortunately and quite illogically no, they do that background and name check after you file the AOS, and sadly there are many people still waiting for that to go through and some that go to interview and still have to wait on Green Card pending that FBI check of some sort, no rhyme or reason, you are very correct in saying why not have it done when I file for K1 or for first visa to enter USA, but for some reason they defy normal logic, it is silly, I mean if there were a terrorist using this marriage as a visa to get into the USA, then they have many months to just simply disappear once they arrive in the USA and go underground to never be seen again until whenever. Kind of like letting the Jeannie out of the bottle so to speak.

Incorrect. Many people are interviewed and approved pending name check. Many of these people wait for well over a year AFTER INTERVIEW APPROVAL for their name check to clear. :)
