i had problems with the ss office too! i applied, waited for the card to come in the mail, but didnt get anything! i also called the customer service, what was kind of hard cause there was no number on the receipt! customer service said they couldnt help me and told me to go back to the office where i applied! so i went back and told them what happened and they took care of it! i also had my name changed on that day cause i was already married by that time!

i suggest to just go back to the office and get some help there. dont forget to bring you marriage certificate for the name change!

did you come here on a k1 visa?

if so your visa will expire next month but you dont have to worry about that since youre already married! what you have to do now is to apply for adjustment of status to get your green card! read the guides here on vj so you know what to do!

after the fees for aos were increased you can also file for employment authorization document and advance parole without paying extra for those. theyre included in the filing fee for aos!

Normally SSA won't allow you to apply if your I-94 is going to expire within 2 weeks.

May be different for second time.

You may have to wait until you have your GC.

No problems with your visa expiring. Just file for AOS as soon as you can.

hi again thanks both of u about the reply.Nina+Matt ,the receipt they gave me didnt have a number too .yes i came here by a k1 and i am the male so i dont have to change the name.I read that if my I-94 is going to expire some social security offices wont accept it,but i think as long as i have my receipt i got from the 1 th time i applied for a social security card which has the date of September the 28th ,i hope they will accept that as i already applied but they did a mistake.

My wife and me still need a co sponsor for the affidavit of support so i dont think we'll apply for the AOs soon. Can i apply for a work permission alone ? without waitting to file the AOS .

Unfortunelty you have to file the AOS in order to be allowed to file and recieve the EAD work permit. You can't file it alone.

Don't wait too long.

From the guides.....

"Apply for Adjustment of Status (AOS). You should file as soon as possible. If you have not filed for AOS and your K-1 expires, you will be considered out-of-status until you file. Make all attempts to file before you become out-of-status. You may also file for your EAD and AP at this time. "

 I have read on VJ that people have waited a couple weeks past and did not have a problem....I hope you get your co-sponcer sorted soon!

Best of luck.

Be sure you don't leave the country, dolphin1, unless you have received Advance Parole (which you can file for when you file for AOS) or your green card.

David had a few problems with obtaining his SSN too and we had one person that we always met with to work on it... she was very helpful.

You will be considered out of status once your I-94 expires, but that should not be an issue as long as you file for AOS as soon as you can. You can have all of your other paperwork complete while you are working on trying to find a co-sponsor.

8-30-05 Met David at a restaurant in Germany

3-28-06 David 'officially' proposed

4-26-06 I-129F mailed

9-25-06 Interview: APPROVED!

10-16-06 Flt to US, POE Detroit

11-5-06 Married

7-2-07 Green card received

9-12-08 Filed for divorce

12-5-08 Court hearing - divorce final

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

Why does your SSA receipt has no number??? In my case they issued me a receipt with reference number written at the top right side of the paper. So they can verify your case easily by having this.
