I've heard of many people applying in their married name and they haven't had problems getting the SSN. It might be easier to file under the maiden name, but certainly there's nothing preventing you from filing with the married name.

I read also that it depends on how soon after you enter on a K1 that you apply; the guides say to wait at least two weeks before applying for a SSN in your married name!

I got my SSN a month after we got married, with no troubles at all. Got it in the mail 8 days later.

To the OP: we got married 6 days after I entered in the US.

Did you check off that you are a legal alien allowed to work? I think maybe we talked about this before but I can't remember. (We're still trying to get mine! Apparently the DMV can help us out if we get a denial letter, according to the people working at the office we went to anyway.)

It probably varies by state but in California you can just go to the courthouse and get married within about 30 minutes so you could actually do that the day the beneficiary arrives

In NY you have to wait 24 hours after receiving the license before you can get married. You don't need a SSN, but both parties have to be present, with ID, to apply for the license. Also, the wedding officiant has to be registered in NY, in case someone would be coming from out of state to perform the ceremony.
