Idiot...I just reread the story and from the context it was still on otherwise it probably wouldn't have:

"grabbed the glove and pulled my hand into the rollers" he told WIS-TV in Columbia.

Having grown up on and around farms this guy pulled the biggest blunder going. In my younger years it was pretty common to see a farmer who had been injured by a piece of machinery. Either they thought they were quicker or they put their hand somewhere they shouldn't to clear something out of it. (cornpickers and combines always seemed to be a favorite) Or they would be too lazy to go around and step over something like an exposed spinning PTO Shaft. (used to know a guy we called the one nut wonder any guesses how he got that way?) Even if you turn off the piece of machinery you should never reach in to remove an obstruction and ther is still tension in place and when you remove the obstruction things can move REAL fast!

I had an uncle that lost his right arm to a forage wagon. A piece of wire was wrapped around the rotating bars, he saw it and tried to pull it out. Instead it pulled him in. It took my dad 2 hours to get him out of that. In the end my uncle lost his arm. Farming is a dangerous job.

He was an idiot for reaching into the machine in the first place. Doing it the right way probably took too long. A lesson for all.... take the time to do the job safely.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

It never ceases to amaze me, the human capacity for survival. As gruesome as that may seem, under those same circumstances, I think a lot of us would have done the same to survive.

I think more would have died than survived this kind of thing. It is, however, the second time I learn of such a story. There was a guy that got his arm stuck between two giant rocks while out hiking in the middle of nowhere. He chopped his arm off, too and made it.

A lesson for all.... take the time to do the job safely.

Kind of an important item particularly in your line of business, isn't it?

It could have been an impulsive response, rather than him consciously thinking it through before doing it. Some people have better instincts than others.
