Hi Banfield !

What does packet 4 means ?

I thought we should receive the packet 3 that contain instructions and forms and take these paprework with us to the inteview.

I already have my interview scheduled but no packets yet, I have dowloaded all the forms and instructions and We are ready to go.

Sorry perhaps it is different depend on the Consulate/Country !

Could please help me to understand that ?

Thank you so much !

From a response from JVK & CVO, a steller member here on VJ:

"packet 4 is when they send you the passport back with the visa and the "misterious" brown envelope that should not be opened, and is to be surrendered at the POE (includes all visa paperwork and medical exam results- nothing misterious about it)."

I would call your embassy and see if you can send in the documents that you get off-line from the State Dept or from their website (local instructions) and make sure that you have all of the required documents. Our embassy was very cooperative with this and I honestly don't think they sent a packet 3. We submitted today so I will know how it went here hopefully in a few days.

I thought packet 4 was the notice of interveiw date as well, but now I am leaning to the after interview side. We haven't heard anything from the embassy since we turned in our packet.

Anybody know how long it takes to contact you after you submit packet 3?

Thanks,

Some US Embassies/Consulates skip packet three and just do a packet 4. Manila is one of these US Embassies that send your interview date and medical date along with the requested documents in packet 4. Then you bring the requesed documents to the interview. My wife and I are still waiting for our packet 4.

Some US Embassies/Consulates require the petitioner to fill out packet 3 documents and return them before scheduling an interview.

Right, the packet 4 being the brown envelop and passport was probably meant to be a joke. If not, then the info was just wrong. As edp333 said, some embassies want to get some docs before scheduling the interview. They do a P3, which is returned to the embassy after which a P4 is sent with an interview letter.

Some embassies do a single info packet for K3, meaning you fill out the forms and take them with you to the interview. The info packet contains the scheduled interview letter. They don't get any of your DS forms at the embassy until you take them there for the interview. But they can scan the barcode for the DS-156 info input, so its not too tedious a data entry job.

This varies by embassy so you will want to know what happens at yours. Banfield, from the sounds of it you have a P3 to send (or have sent) and a P4 to wait on. Supernova, you will only get the one info packet before the interview (judging by the fact that your interview is already scheduled).

Anyone will need, for the interview, to fill out the FORM FS-257.a ??

I have to fill out this one for my interview in Rio de Janeiro...and have doubts about the question 6.

What I put as "ocupation" in this house that I live since 16 years old?? I was student, then worker, then housewife, then unemployeer, then student again...What should I put there?

Thanks anyone!

Yes Urge, I noticed Kass was RFEed in August and approved in September. Therefore the reference to an early interview date.

LOL means lots of laughs, hence a joke. Lighten up and have some fun. It will help the time to pass.
