Hey all - just read another post and figured I'd combine a few things together too.

I finished work back on Nov 2 and for a week, packed like crazy...all the while fighting w/ my teenager about whether she was coming or not - very, very stressful, but it worked out ok in the end.

Then, finally ...trucking packing on the 11th and up early the next morning to drive halfway to Pittsburgh, with the remainder on the 13th. Our border crossing was very smooth at the Peace Bridge in Buffalo. We went and waited @ Door # 1 as instructed for a little over an hour because they seemed fairly busy with a variety of folks. Finally they called us for our paperwork, took it and asked us to wait a few more minutes before calling us in. The guy was down right cheery, finished up , paid $6 each for my daughter and me and we were on our way. No EAD stamp (kind of what we expected anyway) and we were ready to go.

The UHAUL truck ran like a dream, no scary breakdowns (and yes, it had Arizona plates :)

Fast forward through a week of mad unpacking, cleaning, sorting and Salvation Army trips and we arrived at the wedding date - November 24th. We were both up bright and early, cooking and putting the final touches on the brunch details and then we headed upstairs to get dressed. Guests arrived and were greeted by our minister and seated in the living room (set-up like a small chapel...all the usual furniture had been removed to other rooms) Right at 11 Don and I made our way downstairs and into the living room where we were married! Amazing how fast the actual ceremony goes really. There were congratulations all around and loads of pictures and then we headed to the kitchen for some tasty food and conversation. Things broke up a couple hours later and then we got ready to head to Luray,VA for our Honeymoon while my parents stayed behind with the unruly teenage children!

The Honeymoon was the most relaxing thing we've done in months. No phone or tv in the cabin, just a sweet little quiet town and some interesting local things to do. Really awesome. The casual, folksy tavern in Brookside was great and had some really nice down home cooking.

Thats all for now....we just filed the marriage license today and got the certified copies already so I'll be working on the AOS package in between everything else!

Cheers folks

glad it went well

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
