I'm rooting for you to go to Hawaii! I've been to Maui, the Big Island and Oahu. You can find small out-of-the way places in any of those islands and you'll have a great time. Look for the "Maui Revealed" or "The Big Island Revealed" books at your library-they are GREAT resources to help you plan. IM me if you'd like more Hawaii tips.

:)

Hawaii is wonderful, although it's too long a trip for us since we'll be coming direct from Brazil. One of my coworkers, though, who married a guy from India, was told that they couldnt go to Hawaii on his visa because of something like "it's the last stop before leaving US territory" or something odd like that. Rather, they could go, but he might not be able to return. Anyone else heard anything like this?

We'd love to go to PR but cant' find any good flights or resorts there.

Thanks for all the replies....

Yes the key to this is like you guys said, I can go anywhere for the honeymoon BUT coming back for re-entry is the issue. Point taken. he he he

Re: U.S. Islands for honeymoon - I've heard some ppl have had problems coming back in because it wasn't part of the mainland? I wouldn't mind the U.S Virgin Islands....Hawaii seems a little too commercial...we wanted something very intimate.

Ha! Hawai'i is only commercial if you go and hang out where the tourists go.

So break away from the well travelled path and you WILL be pleasantly surprised.

I had never had the desire to go there.

I was "dragged there" in late 2001 and stayed for 6 weeks.

I did not want to leave.

And trust me on the mainstream thingie: I hate it.

Find locals to hang with or keep to yourselves in quiet remote places.

Mmmmmm.....

I found beaches in Northern Oahu where I was playing alone with the sand pipers.

It was paradise.

Do them with enthusiasm!!

Don't just do something. Sit there.

The part about not being able to go to Hawaii just isn't true - immigration folklore perhaps :)

Well we didn't got to a spa, but we spent our Honeymoon in Sedona in AZ. Great spot to go to. We just drove there for a weekend and got a B&B package with horse back riding and some nice dinners. Wife used to live there and I used to go there all the time before we were married, so it seemed like the perfect getaway spot for our Honeymoon...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

Hawaii is as much the last stop before leaving US territory as is Florida, New York or any international airport for that matter... Urban legend all they way...

YMMV

that makes no sense...all along the coastline is the last stop too...however, I was just talking to my friend whose husband was also told he shouldn't go to hawaii, as he won't be let in without travel documents/GC..I told her that can't be right, it's one of the 50 states... He wasn't on a k visa, maybe student visa when he got married. We were planning a hawaii trip right after we got married. I didn't think they even checked passports in hawaii or alaska.
