My mother married an american citizen and she has been a permanent resident for a few years now. She has her GC and SSN. I'm still on AOS but i did get approved by the immigration a while back. Now i have a few questions about education. I have been going to high school in the USA for the past years and i am a Senior atm. When i asked my step dad he did say i was allowed to go to school. How would this work with a college/university? Should i apply as a normal student or international student? Notice i have no visa! I did come on a visa(K2) but after i became on AOS i did not require one. So where exactly does this put me? I dont have a visa number or SSN so i can't give them anything like that....

Wish i could be of more help, but your post is a bit unclear. How come you filed AOS and have no visa? If your AOS was approved, you should have one (correct me if I'm wrong people). If you don't have status, I would think you would need a student visa in order to apply/register at a post-secondary institution. Sounds like a lawyer case to me -- have you consulted an attorney?

Well i did come here on a K2 visa at first but it expirered after i was on AOS and got approved. I did get somekind of stamp when i got approved but i'm not sure how that works. I believe it acted as somekind of temporary visa but again i'm really not sure.

edit:

please look at this thread:

In your other thread it sounds like you're still in FBI name checks - do you have your green card? Did you get a I-551 stamp in your passport? Otherwise, I wouldn't go so far as to say you were approved.

I'm not sure whether you can apply for college while you're still in AOS status. The fees might change depending on what your current status is, which is still unclear right now.

Have you determined with your parents where you're at with your process?

Really i'm not sure anymore where i am besides knowing that i'm on AOS. A month ago we talked to this lady from the immigration office and she said my case stopped and it needed to be disconnected from my mom's file and moved forward again or something like that. I'm not really sure what this means and if its a good or bad thing.

I made a thread about this here:

I do know i was approved because i did get my interview.

If they told you that you were approved at the interview, then that's one thing. If not, that's another thing. Just because you had your interview does not mean that you were approved. There have been cases where people have had their AOS interview at their local office, only to be stuck in FBI name checks afterwards.

Not trying to bust your chops here, I'm just pointing out that an interview does not necessarily mean an approval. If you don't have a GC or a temporary GC stamp in your passport, and you don't know where your case is, then you need to contact your congressman and find out what's going on.

I had my interview with my mom and she got approved. I was also approved but the interview was on the day of my bday and it was also the age where extended background check were required. I asked my mom and she did say i was approved. Cant you get approved at the interview and be stuck in the name check after or have your case pending for w/e reason?

I know exactly where my case is at atm: CIA security clearance still pending. So yeah... =/

I have all the proper documents stating my legal status on this but i'm not sure if its enough proof for the colleges/uni

that means you're not an LPR yet.

check with the University - some may accept a student with pending AOS as a domestic student, but others will want to see a green card or some kind of visa with an unexpired I-94. You need to talk to the International admissons office - they are a lot more knowledgeable about immigration than those who deal with domestic applicants. But they may not know everything anyways.

You don't need an F-1 student visa to apply to a University. In fact, you can't even get one at this stage.

Filed AOS from F-1
Green Card approved on 01/04/07
Conditions removed 01/29/09

Citizenship Oath 08/23/12
