Since our visa application hasn't even been opened by Vermont yet, I really don't know if this is the correct forum to post this in but...

What's the concensus on telecommuting while my husband is visiting from Canada? Does this constitute working in the US even though he'd be working for his home company in Canada via the Internet?

All I know is that when Jerry came to visit me in Canada, he got grilled a lot about bringing his laptop with him on vacation (he's a computer programmer). I know that Canada doesn't like it when you work on your vacation, not sure what the US policy is on that.

Yes. He's here every other week or so. It is usually only for 3 days but sometimes 9 or 10. And, I go up there regularly, but mostly only stay for 2-4 days. He's got a lot more freedom to come and go than I have.

He usually brings his computer with him no matter where we go. I often have mine. No one has ever asked us about them on either side. We drive, btw. That may have something to do with it.

My husband has telecommuted during visits to the US and it's never been a problem; honestly, we never actually gave it much thought. He is still based in his London office for a UK company getting paid into a UK bank account, so I don't think there's any reason for the telecommuting to be a problem.

I bring my laptop with me all the time with no problems so far either.

My advice though would be to never say you will be "working" while in the US since that could be easily taken the wrong way. Even more so if you happen to be self employed.
