Now imagine the reaction if someone gleefully chimed in with "The Light Unto Nations is at it again..." or "God's chosen people are at it again" every time an article is posted about the IDF shooting a child in the head, or forcing a woman in labor to give birth in the dirt instead of allowing her to a hospital, or bombing a refugee camp.... or on and on and on....

For all their flaws, you're not going to see anyone jailed in Israel for saying a bad thing about Moses.

As for shooting people in the head and other atrocities, your Muslim brothers and sisters are still

world leaders.

You know what, Mawilson. Most people understand that it’s repulsive and ridiculous to try to use the actions of one person -- or a group of people, or even a government -- as an excuse to demonize an entire religion or an entire people. Actually, the only folks who don’t understand this are bigots.

Anyway, I would certainly be interested in seeing your supporting evidence for your claim about Muslims being the "world leaders" in "shooting people in the head and other atrocities." Bring it on.

As for your glorious Israeli legal system -- well, it's distinguished itself as the only one in the world to have effectively legalized torture. As for your beloved IDF -- well, Israeli soldiers who violate the IDF's own code of ethnics are almost never punished by Israeli military courts for their actions. "Your Zionist brothers and sisters" (to paraphrase you) routinely conduct extrajudicial assassinations, demolish the homes and farms of innocent Palestinian civilians, generally use excessive force against civilians, and all sorts of actions that have been repeatedly condemned by international law and human rights organizations. I am more than ready to debate you on that subject.

But there is no legitimate reason to follow an item about IDF crimes with some stupid bigoted remark about "the Jewish people" or "the Jewish religion" being to blame.

You have completely missed the point -- or perhaps you are ignoring it on purpose. So I will spell it out again -- my post was in response to yet another of Lucky Strike's countless attempts to demonize Islam.

Anyone can cherry-pick articles about bizarre or disturbing ####### involving any ethnicity on Earth. But to try to use them to smear an entire religion (or an entire ethnic group associated with that religion) -- this is simply bigotry.

You know, some mohels engage in the disgusting practice of metzitza b’peh. Does this mean the Jewish people should be characterized as the “world leaders in religiously sanctioned child molesting” ?

I'm Muslim, born and raised, and I'm not offended by a teddy bear being named Muhammad (choose your prefered spelling). I've met some absolutely despicable people named Muhammad, but I doubt it's Islamic law for their parents to be beaten.

Non-Muslims who are hateful against Islam or its adherents are no different than Muslims who express hatred toward adherents to other religions. They tend to be simplistic in their thinking, atagonistic in their dialogue, and not worth arguing with.

From my western eyes, it appears to be a shame that this has occurred from all prospectives. However, I'm glad that we live in a country with a tad more levity on these issues. God bless the USA!!!

"Effectively" legalized is not the same as "legalized", otherwise I could say the same about the

United States -- waterboarding, extraordinary renditions, anyone?

they wont behead her , and you all wana fool me to le think she did not mean by the Muhammad the prophet or if they would do that to her just f she mean any other Muhammad.

and if i were them and got sure she mean the prophet , i would not get her to police stations , i'd just get her out of this school right away.

because all i care about are those kids who waits from her to teach them usefull subjects in the Honorable English ways instead of standing of doing what she did.

only understand it , we dont joke when it comes to hour Religion or our prophet , so if you are that tolerance just stop harrassing us , and we ill away tolerance in other things

salam

I think the article stated that she let her students choose the name. She didn't choose the name.

I admit I didn't read the whole thread, but I think dissing someone's religion over this is really uncalled for (and by that I mean referring sarcastically to it as a "religion of peace and tolerance"). Let's not get into religion bashing. Sheesh.

Crusades anyone? (tee hee...sorry)

Oooh yeah. I went off in another thread a few weeks ago about extraordinary rendition in the US.

I'm one of them tree-huggers when it comes to that. Oooh, I get so pissed when I think about....

Breathe.

Back away.

It's Sudan - enough said. Sounds like a twisted up story and I'm sure there's more to it then what is being reported. You can't take the religion of Islam with 1 billion adherants and say "oh shoot look 1 billion intolerant people" there are crazy people out there, that twist and mangle up the ideas of religion and you name it anything else. Sudan is more governed by tribal law than shariaa anyway and I'm sure that plays a larger part. Western media loves attaching the MUSLIM NATION label onto anything that happens in a Muslim country or where a Muslim is involved. Try looking through a little wider lense to see these things.

Too true. Considering what else is going on in Sudan now and in recent years, this doesn't surprise me.

I demonize Islamic terrorists. Get it straight sis.

What say you about your beloved Hamas launching rockets at any soft Jewish target it can find?

LuckyStrike has lots of evidence to that effect.

Well YOU are the one who made the claim, so YOU should be able to back it up.

As for your glorious Israeli legal system -- well, it's distinguished itself as the only one in the world to have effectively legalized torture.

"Effectively" legalized is not the same as "legalized", otherwise I could say the same about the

United States -- waterboarding, extraordinary renditions, anyone?

The United Nations, B'Tselem, Amnesty International, and a whole bunch of other organizations have already issued lengthy reports on what the Israeli military is known to do to prisoners and detainees and it is indeed considered torture -- acts include violent shaking (to the point of unconsciousness, even death,) beating, kicking, isolation, sleep deprivation, agonizing positioning and infliction of pain for prolonged periods. Many Palestinians have died during "interrogation."

But under Israeli law, ISA (Israeli Security Agency, formerly known as the GSS) interrogators who use physical pressure in extreme circumstances are exempt from criminal liability. The Israeli Supreme Court has actually upheld the "right" of interrogators to use these practices in "certain" cases. This is what I'm talking when I say "effectively legalized."

And then there are the people the IDF doesn't even don't bother to detain, but tortures on the spot -- remember "The Breaking of Bones" ordered by Yitzhak Rabin ? Shall I link one of the videos ?

All of these acts of violence are considered "torture" by everyone except the right-wing extremists inside the Israeli government and military, and their cheerleaders. In fact, they are considered "war crimes" according to the Geneva Convention (to which Israel is a signatory.)

Waterboarding is indeed torture as well, and it's a terrible stain on the U.S.'s reputation that the current administration would allow or even try to defend this practice. Extraordinary renditions often include torture, and these are another shameful violation of our own laws.

By the way, I have some extremely interesting reports about *who* were training members of the U.S. military in so-called "special techniques" that were claimed to be particularly effective in "persuading" Arab/Muslim prisoners -- "techniques" pioneered in a certain Middle Eastern country, and subsequently used at Abu Ghraib and at Guantanamo.....

But all that is another thread.... the discussion here is specifically about an incident in the Sudan. When Lucky Strike tried to use this story to smear an entire religion, I responded. So let's try to stay on topic, OK ?
