So I called USCIS, since I have not bothered them or anyone here for last 4 months. Been trying to be patient... Try is the key word here!

They told me they are only working up to April at this point in time. I asked her if this means that last one the need to finish is still in April or none have made it past. She swore to me no one at the California service is past April. That has to be not true after looking here, correct?

I file July 17 and just hoping to hear something before mid December.

07/09/07 - Sent I-129F packet to NSC

07/20/07 - NOA1 from CSC was received

07/20/07 - Touched

11/28/07 - NOA2 approved

12/18/07 - NVC forwarded forms

01/04/08 - 2nd Packet Mailed (to me not my fiancee ???)

05/13/08 - Interview - APPROVED (K1 - Visa)

07/24/08 - POE (Las Vegas)

you're right, OP; they're working on dates way past that... if you have a look here, you'll see that the past couple of weeks have seen many NOA2s for people who filed right around the same time you did... you may hear something imminently :)

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.

They also don't operate under the same misinformed concept of 'monthly filers'.

Can you define what you mean by "misinformed"?

This is 100% true! They say April, if they still have an open petition from then. They could be working on one from May or even June. They tell you the oldest date whether asked live or posted on their website.

She was giving you a canned response. The call center people have no clue as to what is going on in the service centers.

Sure.

"Monthly filer" is a VJ anomoly. The term means nothing to USCIS insofar as actual processing is concerned.

while true, I don't see how this is relevant... the OP didn't mention 'monthly filers', s/he checked whether the USCIS claim of not processing ANYTHING later than April was correct

as it patently is not, I think that's the relevant piece of information :)

The title of the thread is "I called USCIS about July filers". So I'm not certain what the conversation was about.

And it is relevant, Prettiest. Lumping your case in with others who filed in the same month is nothing but a stressor. One should never compare their case to the processing of another case, especially such a HUGE category as a calendar month. It's an energy waster, causes undue stress, and creates misinformation aplenty on VJ.

people create categories all the time; it helps them identify the similarities between their experiences and others'

it's my belief - backed up by personal experience - that the camaraderie and sense of community thus created far outweighs any sense of stress or so-called misinformation caused thereby... the stress is there already; it's caused by the process, not by calling myself a July filer

Once again, you have summed up the situation with stunning clarity. I couldn't agree with you more.

As long as one understands July filer really means nothing, then there's no harm in calling oneself that.

I don't think that's necessarily true.

When I sent an email to the CIS Ombudsman, I got a reply from a DHS employee who made note of the fact that I told them I was a "July filer".

He told me that VSC was in fact processing June petitions and the average wait was 5.2 months.

He gave me a lame excuse as to why some newer petitions had been approved before I had, but whatever.

To suggest that USCIS doesn't care at all about when someone filed...is a bit erroneous I think.

Every case is different.

Service centers process at different rates of speeds.

Adjudicators process at different rates.

Your file might be in a box selected by a speed-demon workaholic. It might be in a box selected by the office sloth.

Adjudicators see things differently than the guy at the desk next to them.

Every case is different. In so so many ways.

I've seen so much bickering and jealousy amongst the people lumping themselves into 'monthly' categories. I've seen those 'leftover' when all their 'friends' were already approved nearly have nervous breakdowns.

Of course USCIS pays attention to a filing date. But they don't pay attention to it in relation to everybody else who filed at the same time. I don't know a single process in life that works that way. Except maybe kindergarten.
