Processing Times and Case Status

Applications are processed in the order they are received by application type. The average processing times for all applications are posted on our website. Processing times are an estimate of how long it will take to complete your case. Each case is different; so some cases may take longer than others. You can use your receipt to check your case status on Case Status Online (See the "Related Links" section of this page). Please be advised that we will only research your case if it is beyond our posted processing times (You can also find a link to processing times in the Related Links section).

The processing times are for applications that have been just completed. If you have just filed your application, these timeframes may not reflect how long your application will take to be completed. We encourage you to check processing times before inquiring about your case. The processing times are updated monthly.

USCIS has received a significant increase in the number of applications filed. In July and August, nearly 2.5 million applications and petitions of all types were received. This compares to 1.2 million applications and petitions received in the same time period last year. This fiscal year, we received 1.4 million applications for naturalization; nearly double the volume we received the year before. The agency is working to improve processes and focus increased resources, including hiring approximately 1,500 new employees, to address this workload.

As a result, average processing times for certain application types may become longer. In particular, naturalization applications filed after June 1, 2007 may take approximately 16 - 18 months to process.

When your application is received by a USCIS Service Center or the National Benefits Center, we will mail you a receipt notice. The receipt notice will have all of the important information you need about your case. With your receipt number you can check the status of your case on our website and also register on our website for automatic case status updates as we process your case.

For more information about when and how to contact us, whether your case is outside our processing time, or if there are other issues, please see our customer guide Case Services - How Do I... know what kind of services are available to me after I file my application or petition? also available in the Related Links section of this page.

Wow, should I start tearing this USCIS update apart from the top or just make a general statement? We all know the first sentence is absolute baloney. Secondly, from personal experience, they won't look at a case if it hasn't been approved until it's at least 30 days past the estimated time frame they give you, in my case I was told that from the day I called (the Friday before Thanksgiving), they wouldn't even look at it for another 4 months without an approval. They had no idea what my case was, it wasn't touched, nor was it pulled up. Thirdly, the information on the website is not updated once per month. It is updated once per month and a half, sometimes, in between. I've seen it jump from 6 months to 8 months within a week and the update date towards the top wasn't changed. Likewise, in some instances, you will not receive an e-mail update, nor will the site be updated with and approval. Most likely some folks receive a snail mail response first. Depending on holiday delays, it may be the case that the embassy will get notice of your approval before you do. At any rate, what I've learned. Because there is a lesson in all this. Patience is the best policy, but the wait is horrible, especially since there is no clear end date. And most importantly, because of this process there probably won't be much "you" and your fiance won't be able to handle. Good luck to everyone! happy holidays!!!

Dear gogo,

waiting times change all the time, and they can get better! IF USCIS hires more, more, more people... The waiting times that USCIS gives are not correct anyway. VJ has better estimates.

I only wanted to point out that if you are going for CR-1, then your case spends a minimum of 2 months at NVC, while you have to send them applications and fees etc. This may change too, I hope it does.

Rika

CR-1 Timeline

March'07 NOA1 date, case transferred to CSC

June'07 NOA2 per USCIS website!

Waiver I-751 timeline

July'09 Check cashed.

Jan'10 10 year GC received.

gogo won't be helped by extra USCIS staff. His wife's case is pending additional database check(s). Good news is that once thats done, the approval will be there!

Bad news is that the USCIS processing times no longer apply to the case.

Sigh for gogo, totally feeling for you here hun but I have to say this and you are like a Mastercard commerical..........filing for I-129 and I-130 355.0. Obtaining an attorney to do this 3,000 usd, reading your post and laughing....priceless.

However here is my question.

It says in sentence ONE - line One.....processing applications by type as received...ummm hello there.......then why are the same type of app's being processed after our filing date? I may be blonde but I am not that stupid, come on USCIS, give us a break and put out a press release that we can all live by and not nonsense of complete utter lies.

yeah gogo actually got that little tidbit from USCIS in Texas, she was a doll, and pretty upfront about their website which made me laugh. She said in no uncertain terms, Oh that, dont read it, and if you do, it will drive you mad cause its not worth the html code that it is written up for.

Cheers hun

does this even really apply to K3s? They mention naturalization applications but are still saying 6 months for K1 and K2 visas (they don't and have never .. as far as I know.. give K3 estimates). Bottom line, should we ####### bricks now or what?
