I have a really good paying job at the present and have had it since May. The job I had before it was ####### and I only made about $13,000 for 2006, and in 2005 I didn't work the whole year so I only made $5000...and in 2004 I was still in school so I didn't file at all.

My job currently pays me $32,000 per year and I have pay stubs for the past 5 months. I also had a second job for a while this year and have pay stubs for that, as well as my last job.

Should I get a joint sponsor? Thanks :)

We don't know that without knowing how many people are/will be in the household.

You need to have made over $17,112 then, and as it appears you have, you shouldn't need a joint sponsor.

The I-864 asks for the most recent tax return as proof of income. Yours doesn't reflect an adequate income.

However, you have this new position.

I would try submitting the affidavit with your new wages (backed up by payslips and an employer letter) and include a cover letter explaining the situation.

If USCIS finds the affidavit unacceptable, they will RFE you. At that point you can offer an affidavit from a co-sponsor.

Thanks guys!

I do have a joint sponsor lined up (actually had one for the i-134 just in case). So if I send in the I-864 as is without the joint sponsor could they reject it on the basis that this is the first year I've made over $17,112?

No, they're RFE you for more evidence and at that point you could send paperwork for a joint sponsor. They give you a time limit in which to provide requested evidence - if you fail to do then, then they would deny. They won't deny it outright.

Exactly what I was worried about. An RFE isn't so bad; I was worried they would outright deny it and we would have to resubmit and pay again. Thanks :)
