It's supposed to snow all week here. Right now it's sunny and nasty cold. You should see the lovely Christmas lights display in the Commons.

((Sigh))

I love all the sparkling glitter lights this time of year.

Campus feels more relaxed. We all needed that break.

Do you have a breadmaker? Or does anyone? i was wondering how they compare (for teh bread-function) to the KAmixer. I want a KA mixer so badly but they are so expensive! :( I've been making bread about once a week completely by hand... I was thinking about just making giant batches actually. last week I made pitas and he loved them so much he asked for them 4 more times-- so 4 days in a row I made bread! I'd love to just be able to dump all the ingrediants into something and just have it mix/bake/clean my kitchen/work my job/pay off my student loans.

do you make thin pitas or thick puffy pitas where the pita is about 1/2 inch thick? if it is thick pita let me know the recipe. israelis tend to like the thick ones my husband hates the really thin ones. i dont think they are that bad if you are scooping up something really yummy with them. he just likes them really soft and doughy.

Bread is really easy to make in the kitchen aid. You just put all of the ingredients in and let it knead the dough with the dough hook for a while then let it rise. I have never had a bread maker but it's jsut another appliance I don't have room for and don't want to put in my kitchen.

A bread maker is easier than that, just dump all the ingredients in and hit the start button (it will beep when the bread is baked). It usually comes with a little insert with recipies that work well in that machine.

Having said that, I personally don't think it's worth it if you have a mixer. And the machines can be picky, not all recepies work well. It's pretty restricting, just easier.

Has anyone seen Mybackpages lately?

No :(

I miss her.

Well, maybe she went away for Thanksgiving.

15_1_70v.gifBack from a much needed and much enjoyed 5 day holiday break.

I received my first kitchen aid mixer 6 years ago- bright red- I dont know how i got along without it before. Now my kitchen-aid blender- that's another story- over priced for the quality. I'm looking for a new one after 2 years.

I kind of like making the dough and letting it rise and baking it myself. Either way I don't make bread often enough to need a bread maker and I love my kitchen aid.

Aaaand she's back, phew.

I have the same bright red kitchen aid! I think I got it for my 20th birthday so I've had it for 4 years and I'm pretty sure it's going to last a lifetime.

I make thick pitas! I ad a pita recipe forever, then I lost it..then I went looking and found this one:

pita bread

First thing I did is change the salt ratio-- it says 1tbs and that is kind of crazy-- do 1 teaspoon. I make mine thicker mostly because I was lazy, but also because I do like chewy! So what I do is instead of rolling the dough into that tiny flat pancake, I just stretch it into an amorphous blob about 5 inches in diameter. You could mess around with how you put them into the oven-- as blobs, rolled out, etc and that should get you what you want. most pita recipes I tried are kind of like dirt. This is more like if pita and french bread had a baby. I also tend to just use a whole package of yeast in my bread because i am lazy and I want ti to rise too quickly :) So that will be fine if you choose that as well.

Kitchenaide is my new best friend in the kitchen. I love that thing and worked it to death on Friday during our baking frenzy.

Got hubby out to the early morning Friday sales. No complaining. He seemed to actually enjoy it.

And now that I've read through the posts, I see MBP made an appearance finally.:dance:

Whoo I missed the bread discussion. Yes we make bread everyday because husband only likes Moroccan bread so that's the type - no pitas. It's pretty easy, flour, salt, yeast, lil sugar and water in teh kitchen aid whip it up and let it sit like 30 minutes. then make some balls (about 4-5 tennis balls put together). Hammer it out until it's a flatter disc (1/2 inch or so thick). Bake it at 350-375 until it makes a hollow sound when you tap on it. So it's really not that impessive! No bread machines - Youssef doesn't like the inside of the bread, just the crust and bread machine bread lacks a good crust he says.

When I got married I inherited a 20 year old Kitchen Aid and I still have yet to use it. I want to get a pink one though.

I took some pix of the lights up at school in the commons with my cell phone.
