Hi All,

Does anyone know what would be a reason to expedite a visa?

I know that most if not all of the things listed on the uscis webpage are life/death situations... but what about financial issues? or some other hardship....?

Military deployment (usually the USC) is the only time I have seen an expedited visa interview at the consulate.

Having financial issues wouldn't expedite things -- it would more likely slow things down!

There is a Canadian who recently posted that she had her interview expedited at Montreal as her Daughter has a condition that requires early intervention that is offered in the State she is moving to. Anyway it happens but it has to be something pretty serious.

I would say and I don't know for sure, that financial hardship would not be one of the criteria used.

I faxed a letter to the consulate explaining the medical situation and why it would be advantageous to have Marlene with me earlier. I was following that up with a letter from my cardiologist, but never got a chance to submit that letter as the expedite was immediately approved.

Correct- that was me.

Just to point out that our infant daughter is a USC which I am sure is significant and that if I sent my daughter ahead of me, we would be required to place her in daycare which could have potentially sever consequences as her immune system is suppressed because she is getting treated with steroids.

Also, we have contacts at the local US consulate who were making internal inquires on our behalf.

I don't think there was any malicious intent with the deathbed comment, as when you initially contact the NVC about an expiated interview they say- and I quote " Is it a life or death emergency?".
