We're in the process of getting everything together to file for AOS/EAD/AP and for the AP application I see that they are asking for specific dates of travel. My idea is that we apply for the AP "Just in case" my wife and daughter need to travel home on emergency or based on the apparent length of time it is taking for the AOS process due to backlogs.

Being we have no specific dates for travel, how does one apply for it? Do we leave blank dates? or span the dates over a 12 month period?

Thanks

EAD and AP are now price bundled with AOS, so there is no reason not to get it. I don't beleive they require specific dates in order to grant AP, that would be for emergency AP.

I put "undetermined" in the date of travel area. I also put a statement to the effect that I had family still in Canada and needed to be able to travel on short notice in case of a family emergency. I received both the AP and the renewal AP without a problem.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Perfect answer for us! Thanks, and that is what we will do as well.

Thanks again

I also have an important question. I just got my AP approved and I have already bought my ticket to go to Egypt soon and I was wondering if I have to announce the immigrations about my leave or do I just show up at the airport with my approved I-512L documents or what?

Any suggestions on this one would be greatly apprectiated.

Thanks in advance.

Greetings.

You don't have to alert immigration that you're leaving the country. You just have to make certain that you have the AP document(s) with you when you re-enter the U.S. If you applied for multiple entry AP, you should have received two unstamped copies of the travel document. Take both with you. When you return to the U.S., the immigration person will stamp both copies, keep one, and give you the second copy to use for future trips.

If you applied for single entry and only received one document, just bring that with you.

Thank you very much for your reply.

I did receive two documents because I applied for a multiple entery AP. So, the stamped copy the immigration will give me for future trips is good without having to apply for a new AP? I can just leave and return and just show it to them at the airport to enter the US and that's it?

Thank you again. :)

Yup, you can use the AP as many times as you need to up until the expiration date. If you make a subsequent trip, make sure the immigration officer doesn't try to keep the second (and only) copy. They should know not to do this, but some of them are ding-dongs! To be on the safe side, make your own copy of it and keep it in a safe place.

My husband has traveled several times on AP, including a land border cross (Mexico to Arizona). No problems, it's just sometimes a holdup at the airport because you have to go to "secondary." That is, the initial immigration person you see will direct you to go to an adjoining office, and a second officer there processes it. Make sure you consider this if you have to make a connection. We've never had a delay longer than about 25 minutes, but if it's a busy airport with lots of people w/ immigration issues, it can take a little while.
