From Wikipedia:

The term race refers to the concept of dividing people into populations or groups on the basis of various sets of characteristics and beliefs about common ancestry.[1] The most widely used human racial categories are based on visible traits (especially skin color, facial features and hair texture), and self-identification.[2]

Conceptions of race, as well as specific ways of grouping races, vary by culture and over time, and are often controversial for scientific as well as social and political reasons. The controversy ultimately revolves around whether or not races are natural types or socially constructed, and the degree to which observed differences in ability and achievement, categorized on the basis of race, are a product of inherited (i.e. genetic) traits or environmental, social and cultural factors.

Some argue that although "race" is a valid taxonomic concept in other species, it cannot be applied to humans.[3] Many scientists have argued that race definitions are imprecise, arbitrary, derived from custom, have many exceptions, have many gradations, and that the numbers of races delineated vary according to the culture making the racial distinctions; thus they reject the notion that any definition of race pertaining to humans can have taxonomic rigour and validity.[4] Today most scientists study human genotypic and phenotypic variation using concepts such as "population" and "clinal gradation". Many anthropologists contend that while the features on which racial categorizations are made may be based on genetic factors, the idea of race itself, and actual divisions of persons into groups based on selected hereditary features, are social constructs.[5][6][7][8][9][10]

We both belong to the human race.

I was thinking the same thing.

This question is just not as easy as it used to be. The world is such a huge melting pot now.

My family tree has some Germans and American Indians on it. My husband's has Germans and Jamaicans.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

We are both Caucasian (was that was the questions was aiming for? ), so we do not have an interracial relationship, but an still a funky international one.

Jeffrey being New Zealander with Scottish roots and a broad Kiwi accent. I am 1/2 French, 1/4 Spanish (rather Catalan), 1/4 Czech.

Born and raised in Germany, I was brought up with a heavy Spanish influence because of my Mom (1/2 French/ 1/2 Catalan) and Grandma (100% Catalan - most stubborn person I've ever met) and grew up in the Jewish community in Frankfurt (my Czech Grandmother was Oscar Schindler's secretary, they both grew up in Svitavy).

All true, but very confusing. I am never sure which country to cheer for during world cups.

This is interesting, because NO ONE answered with what their RACE is! Rather you all answered with what Nationaliy your heritage belongs to. Saying Spanish, Polish, German, etc....does not mean race. I think HUMAN RACE is what we all belong to. Now as far as our ethnic nationalites...thats a different topic.

I said no, but I think it's tricky. I have actually read in several places that Caucasian also can cover people from India and other parts of Asia and north Africa. So Caucasian is used usually for lighter skinned ppl, European descent, but I think the word actually includes a lot more people than that, technically. Ethnically me and hubby are very different, racially(by terms) maybe not.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

Yes, people from India are sometimes considered caucasian. Other people/groups consider them to be Asian.

All race does is catalogue people based on their physiology. Blacks have different physical characteristics than Asians, who are different than Caucasians. People are people, they just look different based on where they were born and what genes they have.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.
