At the Civil Surgeon's

I took my wife to the civil surgeons over the weekend. They charged a $45 fee for transferring the info from the records to the supplement. Plus she had to take a tetanus, varicella and MMR shot. She already had individual shots for measles, mumps and rubella but the doctor insisted that she take the MMR cause "it's combined in one vaccine". The total came out to $325, 280 for the shots and 45 for the processing.

I have been asking the same questions ....I did have the MMR at the medical in London so I know I do not have to have that again, the doctors I have just rang did ask me if I had the MMR and I replied yes. So yes they would charge you for that injection. Sorry it had to be so much. At least now you can go onto the next phase of your journey. Good Luck

Wow! That's a lot, but at least you know what you paid it for. I will have to take a couple of vaccines too, so now I can picture how much we may spend. Thanks for sharing

Yeah that was sort of steep. But I wasn't too far off, mine cost 225, but I didn't have a tetanus or varicella.

I paid $125.00 for the full medical and blood work... and $15 for the vaccinations....

My wife's cost $500. The Doctor's fee was $125, a lab test was $325, and MMR and Chicken Pox vaccine was $50.

I'm sorry you had to pay so much.

Advice for anyone having to do the medical here. Ring around and also speak to the local health dept about the shots. I found out my local health department charges only $5 for the MMR.

To anyone who has yet to do their medical:

You are not required to get the vaccinations at the civil surgeon. You can get them at a low-cost shot clinic, through your own health insurance if you have it, etc. Just bring proof of having had the shots back to the civil surgeon and they have to sign off on your paperwork if everything is in order. They can't require you to pay $$$ to get the shots through them.

It is much cheaper to go to the local health department. If you think you have had the shot for Chicken Pox you can get a titer to prove it. My health department charged approx $20. You can also take titer for measles and rubella but it is pointless as there is no titer for mumps. So you will then need MMR and upto date tetanus. Again my local health department charged about $50 total for all shots. Never get your shots done at the civil surgeons they always charge a fortune. I would also find all the civil surgeons in your area and phone up and ask about pricing. Driving a few extra miles can save quite a few dollars. I got our cost down from $170 to $110 and that included the vaccination supplement details. Good luck.

I paid $120.00 for the entire process and they put the blood test on my health insurance. Any one looking for a doctor in New York City let me know. He was quite reasonable and all the others cost any where from $250 to $500.00
