What if African Fiance applies through Ghana (resides and works there) but citizen of Nigeria??

My fiance is a citizen of NIGERIA but living and working in Ghana....

He is trying to get his Ghana Residence...

Does anyone know if this will be okay to apply through the Embassy in Ghana (where he resides and works) rather than Nigeria (where he is a citizen but does not currently reside there)????

I fear there may be a delay or problems here.....??? :/

Any advice or stories of this happening with others?????

My SO is from Nigeria, but attending school in Netherlands on a student visa...and he had his successful interview in the Netherlands.

As long as your SO is in Ghana w/ a visa of some type and he resides there....then you should have no problem. Otherwise w/o a visa showing that he has no legal binding residency in Ghana....the interview there would not be a good idea and he should do it in Nigeria. I wish you and your SO all the best in your journey.

As long as he is in legal standing in Ghana, I would think it should be fine. I'm sure wiser members will bring you more precise answers.

I thought the ECOWA meant that you didn't have to have visas between those nations. What would "legal" status mean exactly? But, I do remember an illegal resident of Canada filing for a K-3 and getting through with his interview and everything in Canada. They never asked him if he was a legal resident of Canada, so it wasn't a problem.

It is just like the VWP in that it is meant to be used for just visiting and not to stay. There is a 90 day limit for the stay (not sure if this is per year or per stay).

You do bring up a good point about legal status not being an issue though.

I will figure it out... he is actually not legally a resident YET... BUT he works for a radio station there in ghana and is in the process of applying for legal ghana residence through his employer..... hoping he gets it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! B)
