A strange way to prove that you have met?

This post may seem slightly confusing, so I apologize in advance!

My boyfriend (future fiance :) ) and I will be living together in the US up until I fly back home mid 2009 in order to start the K-1 process. I am aware that we need to prove that we have met (which means that 2007 is within the two year mark), and that photos can be used (but are considered secondary evidence). We don't write letters or emails to each other because we see each other every night and morning, and the only proof we have of meeting comes from back in 2005 and 2006 when we flew to see each other.

Has anyone else been in this situation of living together before filing? What proof did you use, apart from photographs?

I was thinking keeping mail (such as our bank statements, gas/cable bills ect) to show that both of us were living in the same apartment for those two years. Would this be an acceptable proof? I am also telling my boyfriend to switch his camera so it shows the date that photo was taken.

I was also thinking of showing our cell phone bills to show that we regularly call each other (therefore proving an ongoing relationship), however, my cell bill is in his name because I did not have an SNN when I first arrived in the states.

Oh, and I will have an ring on my finger before the interview.

Thank you for any suggestions you have!

maybe some christmas cards or letters addressed to the both of you.

I live with my fiance now, during the K1 process.

We just sent in photographs, things that listed us as having the same address, photocopies of passport stamps showing us taking trips together....that was about it. We didn't include any letters or e-mails.

you only have to prove you met in the last 2 years at the filing stage. any bills or receipts with both your names on it. also pictures that show a date( not one from your camera) are freat evidence. go to a bank currency converter and have you picture taken in front of it, they always show todays date and the currency rates.

we also had pictures taken opening night of the last harry potter movie. it opened in july 07 and we have pictures in front of the now playing movie poster with copies of our tickets. dates from a camera on the photo dont mean much, you can program them to show any date.

you can also have your picture taken holding a current Newsweek and then submit that cover with your picture, it would show the date. most of your living together things will prove ongoing relationship at the interview stage. they just want concrete proof you have met within the last 2 years.

Is there a particular reason you have decided not to get married whilst you are together in the US and then apply for AOS since you are not planning on returning home until mid 2009?

I lived with my husband (then boyfriend) in Brazil and we never mentioned that anywhere in our I-129F - since it wasn't asked and we didn't have bills in our names since we had roommates.

However, at the interview my husband told the CO that we lived together and he seemed to like that answer.

Yes, we have several reasons. The first being our age (20 and 21), we don't want to get married so young. Financial reasons also. We are both in college and want to be financially stable and pretty much out of debt. A lot of people have been saying "do AOS" but we want both our families and loved ones present when we are married and at the moment that isn't possible.

i have been living with my fiance before but we love taking a picture, so i think picture is the best evidence to show, like with several places and people.

but i have other better evidence but i'm not sure if it's the best. we are having a baby together so by the time we have been waiting for the visa, i was pregnant and have a baby now. and I thought my baby can show them how can we met within 2 years.

dont remember the post or if it was even on this site, but a year or so ago there was a post about a couple going thru their AOS interview to prove ongoing relationship and adjust her status. she was also pregnant and showing and the couple thought it would be a shoo in. after the interview the guy was very irate posting that the interviewer claimed his wife being pregnant only showed SOMEONE had gotten her pregnant, but it didnt prove the Husband fathered the baby or prove they had a legit relationship. most of the post was the guy ranting about the interview and how rude they were. I think he also didnt have much other evidence to show they were a married couple.

while i think you being pregnant is proof enough, i think you should get other evidence also just in case.

Fair enough. You seem to have a good head on your shoulders, I'm sure you will sail through the K1. Just keep as much evidence as you can that you are together now and you'll be fine. Good luck with everything :)

Yes, I am studying here in the US on a student visa. I will be done with my program in the spring of 2009, so I must leave the country within 60 days of graduating - hence, going home in mid 2009! It's all above board with me :)

Hi,

We also lived together before filing for K1, and are living together in NYC now whilst we wait for our NOA2, and I wondered the same thing about evidence, when day to day life does not necessitate lots of tangible communication like e-mail or letters.

I have just made sure we have photos of family events like Thanksgiving and Christmas, as this just shows how you are part of the fabric of someone's life. Apart from that we are going to have some e-mails, and also our tenancy agreement, and stamps to show when we went home to the UK together for christmas etc.

Anyway, good luck, and I am sure over the next two years you will gather more than enough evidence. People get through having only met a few times for a few weeks, and you have pre-empted the problem, so just make sure you send the odd e-mail, and take photos!

Good luck and Happy Holidays

Lily

Why not take a picture together holding a copy of USA Today or other national newspaper showing a notable headline that would confirm the date you were together?
