There is, unfortunately, no one thing that people can do to prepare since everyone will be different and be shocked or put off by different things, and accepting of other different things. I basically ran through daily life as best as I could with him and hoped to get him to a point where when he came, although he wouldn't fully "understand" it until he had experienced it himself, he wouldn't be caught off guard either. Now we just talk a lot about new situations he encounters if he feels like he's missing some subtext in the situation.
