Co-Sponsor's Credit Rating Affected

Hi All,

We have to ask my fiancee's Mum to be our co-sponsor - as well as self-sponsor based on the positive equity on my house here in Northern Ireland.

Anyway, does anyone know (and Yes I did search) if her Mum's credit rating would suffer as a result of becoming our co-sponsor on the K-1 visa?

Just want to get armed with the info before we go cap in hand-ing!!!

Thanks,

R

Credit checks are not part of the visa process, so not even an inquiry will be made on any credit record, much less any reported event. The only way I can see for any sponsor's credit to rating to be impacted is if they eventually are required to reimburse the government for some means tested benefit obtained by the beneficiary and then don't pay up. Even then, it's iffy. Depends on whether the government would turn things over to a collection agency or obtain a lein.

I dont believe you can self-sponsor. I believe you have to find a co-sponsor from the States.

You can self-sponsor, but as far as i know its limited to certain countries, and only if you have somewhere in the range of $100,000 or more in assets.

Consumer credit reporting has nothing to do with immigration.
