Peejay, where do you get your statistics?

They have been gleened from various sources. The "80+% of illegals being Hispanic" are from an article I read in USA today a while back. The "50+% of Hispanics are illegals" is extrapolated from the link in this thread from the Houston Chronicle. It states that 48% to 74% of the Hispanics in Iowa are illegal aliens. If Iowa is similare to Houston I would say that is a good ballpark figure. The Houston Chronicle has stated in the past that roughly 25% of the city's population is foreign born and roughly 12% is illegal. So roughly 1/2 of the immigrants in Houston are illegal aliens if you believe their sources. I live in Houston and it appears that way to me. Spend a month or 2 in Houston and see for yourself. I don't doubt it.

The real truth...who f*cking knows? The US goverment doesn't even know how many illegal aliens are in the USA. I've seen estimates of 12 to 20 to 30 million published. One million is a national disgrace, much less 30 million.

If you have better data...feel free to post it. I prefer the truth to bullshit and distortions any day. If my statements are untrue I would be the first person that would want to know. I don't bookmark every article I read nor do I believe everything I read either. I tend to believe unbiased sources (if there is such a thing).

You sound very threatened by these Spanish-speakers!

Fear of a brown planet, eh?

I say...adelante!!!!

Are you ready to throw out the R word yet? 'Fear of a brown planet' sounds pretty close to the 'R' word there. Gosh is that getting tiring.

Well, if my opinion is getting tiring, mamita, then you can exercise the ability to keep on moving past my posts. Better yet, there is an ignore function, no?

Peejay brought up stats saying that most of the illegals in the States are Hispanic. Doesn't that bring ethnicity/race into it?

Just as people may find the race card tiring, I find selective reading and hen-pecking equally tiring.

More race baiting. The planet is already brown, and Hispanic is not a race, so race baiting about Hispanics is stereotyping them all as brown, which they are not.

I think I'm hearing quite a bit of white guilt from the illegal lovers crowd. How many of you are white folks fighting for the rights of the "brown man", as if the "brown man" has no ability to take responsibility for his behavior and the consequences of it. Is that why you have to excuse them and make excuses for their lawbreaking? That is racist and condecending. Holding someone accountable for breaking the law is not.

Why does it always have to get back to EWI's with you people?

Because it is the 2 ton pink elephant that someone dumped into my living room while nobody was looking. If I gotta live with it and put up with it...I'm gonna make sure everybody hears about it until somebody does something about it.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Squeak! Squeak! ;)

The topic in the article has nothing to do with your 2 ton pink elephant.

Squeak Squeak.

Au contraire. The article specifically highlighted Hispanics as being upset with the delays. Why are their delays any more earth shattering or significant than anybody elses'? Several of us explained why their panties are in such a knot over the delays.

There is more to the story than meets the eye as I pointed out. The 2 ton pink elephant is at the root of it. The truth isn't always flattering or pretty and some people can't handle the truth if it doesn't jive with their take on the issue.

I don't give one damn what you would LIKE to make of the story. More than meets the eye, my foot. I know you can read because you are on here typing everyday.

The article is about people applying for naturalization. Something EWI's cannot do.

Where do you GET this stuff? This is a whole lot of attribution and guesswork.

But thanks loads for describing Hispanics to me. I had NO idea what they looked like. Very enlightening!

They were told by Congress that they would not be funded from the general treasury, and were given a deadline to operate strictly within their budget of collected fees. So they raised them.

I honestly was under the mistaken assumption that they increased fees in order to hire more people and eliminate the backlog. Silly me.

Anyone know the official reason for increasing fees?

I think the two I caught breaking into my jeep last Jan were probably Illegal. Last seen headed South. Hope they kept going.

So, peejay...do you recommend that we assume that each Hispanic we see is illegal here, based on your extrapolations, and treat them as such?

You sound very threatened by these Spanish-speakers!

I speak English but no, I am not your mamita. I find that very offensive, but not unexpected that you need to resort to name calling to (try to) make a point.

Peejay brought up stats, yes. Race card, no, you brought that in all by yourself with your 'brown man' comment.

I'm sorry about that...I'll go back and try to edit it out. Hope it works.

Everything else, I still stand by!

#######...I just realize that the edit button disappears after a while. Sorry.

And again..another edit. Mamita isn't name calling...think of it like dude. It's flippant, to be sure, but would never be construed as name-calling.

You're the one who brought up race, as has been mentioned before, so getting all self-righteous when someone comes back at you with it is disingenuous, at best. Get an argument worth responding to instead of just race-baiting and transferring onto others your own guilt about the "brown planet" (your words). Things may go better for you then.

But that is the point. That is the the 2 ton pink elephant...or the 500 pound gorilla in the room that nobody wants to see or doesn't want other people to notice.

There are people in this country that believe EWI's should eventually be naturalized and these people have an agenda.

As several people have pointed out...why are only "Hispanic leaders" upset and eligible Hispanic LPR's that have sat on their hands for years with little interest in becoming a citizen all of the sudden in an uproar to vote?

Why is the naturalization backlog any more significant for Hispanics than for my wife or anyone else that is in the same situation?

Threads often veer off from what others think are the story. In this case I don't think it veered off topic.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995
