I've been watching the BF deals and there is nothing worth camping out for. Not that I have or ever would. My time is too important to camp out in front of a store for 24 hours. I just don't get it.

On the way back from my parents last night after Thanksgiving, I saw people lined up about 12 hours before the store opened. This is Minnesota too, it was below freezing last night.

I REALLY don't understand the idea of waking up before dawn to charge out to....buy things???? As I've never been, it's really hard to believe that people are actually this sick.

Today in my city, it's Buy Nothing coat day....there's been a coat drive going for a couple of weeks and today coats are being given out to those who need them!

I didn't get up early and in line. However, I was looking through the ads yesterday and saw this item that my hubby mentioned he'd like for Christmas. It was 50% off until noon. So, I headed out to Sears (where it was) at 9:00 a.m., got the item I wanted and left.

I stopped by real quick at Toys R Us as they had a couple of items I thought I'd get for my co-workers' kids but the check-out lines were so long I decided to leave.

Most of the stores are running their sale events for the whole weekend so I can take my time in looking through things.

If I offend, I'm sorry... People that do this are out of their minds. Completely! Let's get out of bed, pre-dawn, stand outside, in what ever inclimate weather, waiting to spend, let me repeat, SPEND money!

I get up at 4 am to go to work during the week. I'm not getting up that early on the weekends.

As this is my husbands first Black Friday in the US, he wanted to experience what it was that I talked about over the yrs. So we searched all the black friday ads online, lined out what stores open when, the whole plan. The ladies at work joked around and asked if I got a helmet for him, because you never know, he may need it, cause "first timers" get hurt with crazy people are pre-dawn hours.

So all the planning, preparation, then yesterday while the turkey was in the oven, I went on Best Buy's website and to my surprise they had more than half of the door buster 5am deals available online only on Thanksgiving. So it took me about 5 minutes of shopping in the comfort of my warm home, and no line in 30 degree weather with crazy soccer moms... and free delivery.

Geez, there's some judgmental sentiment in this thread! Personally, I'd rather chew my leg off than get up at the crack of dawn to start Christmas shopping, but a lot of people like the thrill of competition. It has to be something more than just saving a few bucks--after all, most retailers are going to be offering major sales through Christmas. Some people just like to be part of what's become a (crazed) tradition here.

And keep in mind that most people (presumably) for whom Black Friday is a holiday on its own are buying things for others, and many to donate gifts to charities.

My only question is why does it have to be Black Friday?

Nope, not related to skin color!! :-) Supposedly (according to CNN) its when stores start to show a profit! Your in the "black" then, vice being in the red (deficit)

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I got some pretty good deals at Kohl's but heck, the waiting in line thing was too much. I think I'll pass next year.

This was my first BF shopping outing, btw. Just wanted to see what it was like. Toys 'r' us had a checkout line circling twice around the store o.O
