When I was in high school my friends(I was in the 'nerdy but interesting' clique) and I actually wrote a serial story based on just this premise. My superpower was that I could instantly understand anything that anyone was saying in any language, and also was able to communicate in any language. I was also able to understand and communicate with animals a la Dr. Dolittle. That would be so cool - finally I would know what my parrot was really thinking about me all those years!!!

Baring any kind of total invincibility or immortality, I would say stopping time, or to a lesser extent, being invisible, would be so absolutely powerful that you could totally take over the world if one were so inclined.
