My fiancee and were going to try and get the AOS packet done over the holiday but have hit a snag!

She came in on a K-1 from China, so she had a medical appt in Guangzhou.

But they took her sealed packet at the interview there - she has nothing now.

So where do I get the I-1693A? Will we have to do a full I-693 appt and what will that cost us?? (and how long a wait)

Also, if an when we get to the Bio appt. how far are the appointments? In there a DC office?

I can't believe how expensive and frustrating the process has been.

Where does the $1010 go anyway??

She has to do the I-693A. Most civil surgeons will try to 'sell' her the full package. Don't go for that.

She needs the I-693A only!

You will not need to have a complete medical for your AOS, since your fiance already had the K1 medical done in Guangzhou. All you need is an I-693A for the vaccination supplement. The instructions clearly state that K1/K3s are exempt from having a medical examination by a civil surgeon if they have had one within the past year. The medical information that was taken from her at the POE should have been forwarded to USCIS. You can find a list of civil surgeons here according to your zip code.

Depending on when you file for your AOS and which office you're filing at the biometrics can take a few months. You can check here for your nearest local office.

This is a very frequent question. Try searching plugging I-693A in the above search box.

We too had medical done in Guangzhou, the medical results is sent to USCIS by officer at POE, so they have that already.

My wife had vaccinations done after visa interview, and brought the record with her to the USA. You can get the vaccinations done here at your family doctor or even at the local health department.

You take the vaccination record to a US Civil Surgeon, and they transfer the record to the I-693A.

The civil surgeon transfered my wifes shot record from her vaccination book to a supplement for $35 after I insisted that all we needed was the I-693A supplement per I-485 directions. (I showed him page 3 and pointed out paragraph 8)

8. Fiancé(e)s.

If you are a K-1 fiancé(e) or K-2 dependent who had a medical examination within the past year as required for the nonimmigrant fiancé(e) visa, you only need to submit a vaccination supplement, not the entire medical report. You may include the vaccination supplement with your adjustment of status application.

So I can get the shots at my doc and then the approved one will put it into the form?

That would be nice but since it says the medical must be done at the approved doctor I could see them refusing.

I guess I will call one first and ask.

Of course, the approved Doc's are all 2 hours away and the Biometrics place is way up in Baltimore - 3 hours at least.

Yippy.

How do we know what shots she needs?

The medical was done by certified doctors in China, we are talking about vaccination shots, they can be done by any doctor in the USA, and then take their shot record to a US Civil Surgeon for transfer to an I-693A.

Another thing many do is send the shot record to this doctor:

Dr. L.E. Arnold

4534 Westgate Boulevard, Suite 106

Austin, TX 78745

Tel: (512)444-3131

Fax: (512)447-4699

Will do it for $10 by mail.

Shots needed are:

  • Mumps, Measles, Rubella (MMR)
  • Tetanus and diptheria toxoids
  • Varicella

Are hepatitis B, varicella, pneumococcal, flu shots, polio, HiB not necessarily needed then? Plus you can just give a varicella history, right? That way you could just show up, get mmr and tetanus boosters, get it documented and be done with it?

Particular vaccinations are age-appropriate - MMR, TD and varicella are the most common vaccinations issued (age 18-64).

You can check here for the ones which are age-appropriate to you.

hi, guys:

my then-fiancee-now-wife (yayyy!) Fiona is in the same boat as this post described. however, Fiona does not have DS3025 form. she's submittted everything at POE. so my question is that if there is no DS3025, how would civil surgeon transfers data to I-629A? would Fiona have to take all Vaccination shots all over again? if so, does anyone know how much that would cost? once she joined to my health insurance, can we just get the shots through my family doctor? i think that'd be cheaper... but if i do that, i still need to take the result to Civil Surgeon to get a copy of I-629A form, right?

another off-topic question. i've seen from somewhere that the $1010 AOS application fee includes I764 and I-131 fee. is that true? i can't seem to find that article/statement anymore. can someone in the know point me to the right location?

thanks much!

Very good, Dr Arnold is very reasonable and rather quick to reply in mail within 10 business days or less.
