Make us a pile, Bro Dean!

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

If it gives you ulcers and bouts of unrestrained guilt...go to work that day and/or give your your holiday pay back to your employer or to some wino on the street for all I care. Wallow in your misery.

If it's important to "Never forget" other tragedies and genocides, why not this one?

It's only important for 200 years or so - after that it becomes unimportant.

I don't think the Holocaust is going to be a big deal 150 years from now - the world

will have bigger problems to deal with.

The usual phrase that is applied to these situations is "living memory" and yes, I think thats about right.

That's not to say of course that things like The Holocaust, Slavery or the Genocide of Native American peoples are irrelevant history, they're not; and I think that's really the point thats being made here. You often hear people at Christmas going on about how we have to remember the religious aspects, rather than gift-giving family get-together that its become. Nothing wrong with that either - though oddly enough, I think it does explain where a lot of this "War on Christmas" ####### comes from (though the minutia that people go into about what terms can and cannot be used gets a little silly).

In context, I think the argument is pretty apt to Native Americans and Blacks who in some respects are still dealing with the legacy of the histories that shaped this country. Certainly the various social inequalities that tend to pervade those groups are real problems, and I don't think they can be entirely separated from those histories - even if people have a tendency to read "reason" as "excuse".

That's why we took lots of pictures.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

I am no history expert, but can we not celebrate the fact that the specific set of Native Americans who feasted with the specific set of Pilgrims that day did actually like each other, whether other pilgrims or colonists did very wrong things to the Native Americans, did the specific ones who had the feast betray them? Maybe they did I don't remember learning about that. If they did not, then why can't we celebrate their friendship, they could have been a model to follow instead of how things really went.

I am really trying not to get irritated at the extremes going on around here. I know that I regret how the Native ppl here were treated and think it was very sad and horrible, but do I have to stop celebrating a holiday about giving thanks for lots of things and for friendship? Are some going to assume that those who have Tday dinner don't care about the Native ppl or how they were treated? Sounds like it by the way some write.

Personally, I have never been a fan of this "holiday". It is also offensive that people still refer to them as "indians" like the subject of this post. These people are the REAL Americans.

I also wish people wouldn't say Indians, because it was a name given to them mistakenly when explorers thought they landed in India. It causes confusion when you are East Indian, and it's not fair to the native tribes either. Some ppl just don't realize though and don't think they are being offensive, they just are used to saying it. I don't think they mean to be offensive.

This "mistake" is exactly why many Native American's I know prefer to be called "Indian." A little reminder of just how lost the great explorer Columbus was!

The local tribe's, including my own children's tribe, celebrate Thanksgiving with All American fervor. This is not to say they have no issues with their historical treatment. We will be having a traditional feast ourselves, there is little point in trying to destroy the holiday.

Many historical wrongs can never be undone of course, but knowing the past, enjoying the now, and working for a better future is the way to go. Peace out people!

(Shocking not one PETA representative has spoken up about the impending and historical turkey holocaust!)
