No new last name on marriage certificate!!!

Hello everybody,

I have friend that is getting ready papers for AOS. She still didn't register with VJ because she is waiting to get internet access. Anyway, my question is:She got married in Pennsylvania, and there is no her new last name on her marriage certificate, and they told her that she need to change last name with social security. She came here in United States with different visa, and she is right now out of status.

What she suppose do. She want to use her husband last name on AOS papers, but she is concern because she doesn't have any available document with new last name. I didn't have this problem because on my marriage certificate is written my new last name, but every state is different I guess.

If anyone know something about it, please let me know.

My marriage certificate does not show my married name only my maiden name.... but it does show my husbands last name and that is all you need.... I applied for AOS in my married name and my SSN, also had my UK passport updated to show my married name... my stae DL and all my bank and CC card are in may married name and I only ever showed them my marriage certificate

Mine only shows my maiden name, it doesn't have to show your new married name, just that you married your spouse that has that last name - that's enough proof to change it.

I got married in PA too and took my husband's surname, and my marriage certificate only shows my maiden name and my husband's full name. When your friend goes to change her name with Social Security, she can just bring a copy of the marriage certificate and that will stand as proof of a legal name change. For her AOS papers she can fill them out with her new married name and submit a copy of the marriage certificate.

All marriage certificates has the bride's maiden name on it. The marriage certificates is the proof that you got married and that you are legally allowed to use the name of your spouse which is stated in the certificate.

Yes, but usually marriage certificate have also written new last name. On my marriage certificate is written and my maiden name, and my new last name!!!That's why she was concern because it wasn't written her new last name, but we figure out!
