hi,

im having the medical injections carried out by my own doctor over the next few weeks, starting in an hour

could someone tell me what is required in the form of proof that i have had these please?

would a letter printed on the surgery's letterhead be adequate?

also

was anyone ill after having these injections?

also

i had chicken pox when i was a child, my doctor has no record of this in my notes, how do i prove i have had the disease and do i need the injection? if i do need it i would rather my doctor gave it as it saves £25 on the bill! (he is only charging for varicella and hepititis b ) i also got measles polio and rubella vacinations when i was at school (im 38 now) do i need these injections?

These are the vaccinations required http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/...ccinechart.html and you will need those that you have not had or cannot prove you have had. I also had Chicken pox as a child and I just told the doctor at the medical and he made a note on a form. The chicken pox vaccination is not available in the UK. The vaccinations are actually required for Adjustment of Status and not for the K1 but I had them done just to get them out of the way.

I had all the shots and didn't really get ill from them although I had a bad headache the next day and my arm had an itchy red lump for a couple of days.

Once he got back to the US, my husband and I went to the Dr. in our area approved for medicals. They looked at his record that he had done by his GP, just written on normal letterhead by the GP. They just asked if he had had chicken pox, he said yes and they marked that down. We paid 25$ got the sealed vaccination record from them and sent it in.

I had my injections done by my GP 2 days ago. To answer your questions:

Firstly,

He said that if the nurse had done them I would have got a little booklet that she would have stamped and signed to show which injections were done.

But as he was doing them, I just got a computer print out of the entry he did for that day in my medical records. He had to print it out twice becuase the first one had lots of other medical notes for me that he said I wouldn't want the Embassy doctor reading..well, I wouldn't! In the end the print out just shows my name, birth date and address, doctors name and practice address, date and list of the injections I had.

Hopefully that will be enough! He seemed to think it would be adequate.

Secondly,

I was fine that day but am sore today. Not ill though, and it's not stopping me doing anything. He did both arms, one is fine and you can't even see a mark; the other one is swollen and sore around the area but paracetamol helps. He said it could be sore for up to a week or so afterwards, and that I could feel 'flu-like' symptoms but that hasn't happened so far.

Thirdly,

I have had chicken pox so he said that I should get a blood test at the local hospital to test for antibodies. He will get the result 2 days later and I will then call to see if I am immune to it. If I am, he'll give me a copy of the blood test; if not he said he'll arrange for me to get the injection. He says it is available in the UK but not widely given.

That would be the one I would have to pay for. The ones he did for me are:

pertussis

tetanus

diptheria

mumps

rubella

measles

flu

I printed off the chart form the US Embassy website to show him, and from that, he decided what I needed. I have had the mmr etc as a child but can't prove it because I have lost my little immunisation book! (Slap on the wrist )

He said I didn't need Hepaptitis B because I am older than 19....now I'm wondering if he should have given it to me?! Help!!

I think that if you get the chicken pox blood test and it shows you have immunity, you may not need the injection. If you have the medical records (or your GP does) to show you had the measles, polio etc at school, you won't need them, but I think you will need documents to prove it. If, like me you can't proove it, you will probably need to get them done again.

first one, first! lol i had 8...lol...Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Polio, Haemophilus Influenzae B, Measles, Mumps and Rubella…gawd my arms ache!

i have still to have Hepatitis B, Varicella, Pneumococcal and Influenza, which these start in December. the nurse gave me the boxes and said that once they had all been done she would put a letter together for me so that i can take it to my medical in london…when the time comes…WHEN!!?

the varicella the nurse is ordering in for me in a few days, she said it doesnt matter than i have already had the disease she shoot one in my arm anyway, just to be safe! i have to pay for this one and the hepatitis b, which comes to less than what knightsbridge are wanting for varicella alone!!

i dont get how the london practice can get away with giving all the injections in one go, the nurse told me that one of the injections is given over 21 days...i cant remember which, i was concentrating on the blood running down my arm at the time! lol

hopefully all i will have to pay on the day of the medical is £200.

my right arm is killing me, she said my face would swell and i might get a rash...ho hum...the things we do for love!

How old are you? If you are over 19 and under 50, you do NOT need Hep B, Pneumococcal or Influenza -- check the chart again if you doubt me!

You also do not need Varicella, as it is not normally administered in the UK. If you can prove you had chicken pox (varicella), they will note that as well. My husband didn't have any of his medical records to prove this, but declared he had had it as a kid and showed a very faint scar and this was sufficient.

If you're the right age, you are done with the jabs! Show the nurse the chart again and bring to her attention the age requirements for the jabs. She should then do a letter for you. Tell her there's no need for the varicella, as you say you've already had it -- make sure she notes this -- backing up with a scar can help.

Also, you didn't need the Influenzae B jab, oh well...

You don't actually need all of them, even if they are listed on the site. That is all possible injections that may be applicable to you, totally dependant on your age.

For example, influenza is clearly shown as only needed if over 50 years of age.

Your profile shows you as 38, so (according to the chart above) you don't need: DTP, Hib, hepatitis B, pneumococcal or influenza.

You do need: TD, MMR & (proof of having) chickenpox
