Hi all. I found out on the weekend that my Grandfather passed away, and I'd like for my husband to be able to travel back to Australia with me for the funeral. As the non-USC, I have made an Infopass appointment for tomorrow morning to (hopefully) get emergency AP.

The issue is that my husband does not have a passport. We've been looking in to the expedited service, and from what I've read on the Department of State website, the normal (mailed in) expedited service will get your passport within 2 weeks. We'd need to leave by this coming Friday to get to Australia in time. I've read that you can make an appointment to get your passport if you're travelling in less than 14 days, however it seems that the New Orleans office deals with applicants from Iowa (which is where we live). This is completely unexpected, as I would have thought Chicago would serve Iowa.

Could you please let me know if you've had any experience with getting an expedited passport.

Thanks.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

In order to get a passport quicker than 2 weeks, you or your agent is going to have to go to a Passport Office in person.

The passport offices are in the following cities..

Boston, Chicago, Denver, Norwalk, CT, Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, DC

You'll need to make an appointment as well...

Call 1-800-487-2778 to make an appointment

Correct. I've had one made the same day. Plan your trip to stop in one of the cities with a passport office. LAX or SFO might be your best choice, since you will probably leave from there to Australia anyway.

Doesn't matter what city you have it done in.

Thanks for your advice, everyone. Looks like I'm going to have to make the trip alone this time.

Cheers.

Now for another question.. how can ANYONE who has a foreign spouse NOT have a passport?

He should have to go to Chicago to get a passport as punishment...

My husband doesn't have a passport... I keep nagging him about getting one but goodness knows when he will. He doesn't see it as a priority because he hasn't travelled in years - I came to HIM.

To the OP I'm sorry about your grandfather...
