Hi there,

I lost my passport way back in June and have been in limbo waiting for a replacement to be processed through my Consulate. I had hoped that I would get my new passport in time from my AOS interview in January 2008. I'd been told that the passport replacement process takes at least six months. But... no updates yet, and the paperwork did not go through up until a month ago. (I had to use the NY consulate form, not the LA one. Processing officer on vacation for a month, my photo background was not the proper shade of blue!! I need original documents from Malaysia but I still have not received them ...yadda yadda)

Well, I was wondering whether anyone has gone through an AOS interview without a passport? What was your experience and did you have a hard time getting approved?

I do have the following documentation:

- US Driver's License

- EAD card

- I-94

- SSN card

- Marriage record

Will these be enough to support my case even without a passport? Any advice would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks!

I don't believe that foreign passport is an absolute requirement for the interview, from what you say in your post you have ID, and I-94 card.

Only thing is that you don't have a passport that they can apply an I-551 stamp to.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

6 months to get a replacement ? That's ridiculous.

Wow, and I thought we went through hell getting Claudeth's Filipino passport renewed. It was a lot of red tape but at least we were able to do it in one day

I don't know if you can get by without it or with just a copy, (We have multiple color copies just in case.) but having just received and read my wife's Request for Initial Interview NOA, I see under the heading...

YOU MUST BRING THE FOLLOWING ITEMS WITH YOU:

All travel documents used to enter the United States, including Passports, Advance Parole documents (I-512) and I-94s...

I'd go ahead and attend on time and throw myself at their mercy if I were you. Bring all the paperwork you used to obtain a new passport.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

Not sure why people are saying that a passport isn't needed, that was the first thing the interviewer asked for. And isn't it in the interview letter that you must bring it?

Mierda (!) - A passport is not required. Just because it was asked doesn't mean it is required. We've gone over that several times here on VJ and passport is definitely NOT required for the interview.

We interviewed on Monday, the passports were asked for specifically, she removed the I-94s............she left the room with the passports and driving licenses (mine and my USC husband) I assumed she took copies, and she voided the K3/K4 visas.

Where would your I-94 be if not in your passport? the visa was issued by the consulate in a foreign country (correct me if I'm wrong).........they need to see it with their own eyes to verify the information you have on your application.

At worst, they may approve pending sight of the passport.

I think Info pass appointment is necessary.............

I feel Good...........like the moon is shining just for me!
