Hey...does anyone know or remember the exact location of where to get the police report in Kingston? :help:

Tonisha,

You are so on topic; here is the info you are looking for

Police Records

Available. Residents of Jamaica should apply for police certificates at the Ministry of National Security, 3 Oxford Rd., Kingston 5. They must present a passport, two passport-sized photographs, fee receipt, and evidence, such as a form letter of instructions to visa applicants, that the Embassy requires them to obtain police certificates for immigration purposes. There is both express, three-day service and a 21-day service.

After the application is processed, the applicant should take the receipt to 79 East Street in downtown Kingston, where the applicant is fingerprinted. At the end of the specified period, applicants should return to 79 East Street to collect the police certificate.

Jamaicans living abroad and former residents of Jamaica may also obtain police certificates, but will need someone in Jamaica to act on their behalf. The applicant should furnish the person applying for the record on their behalf with fingerprints, a certificate of character from a Notary Public or Lay Magistrate, two passport size photographs and a letter of consent authorizing application. These documents are to be taken to the Ministry of National Security at 3 Oxford Road, Kingston 5.

The issued certificate measures 8 x 6 inches with a heading of "Jamaican Constabulary." A photograph of the applicant is attached and an impression seal is placed on the photograph.

I'm applying for him an ITIN number and turning it all in at the same time. I'll file married cause its great tax relief

THats what I am going to do too I think..Else I might have to pay. DO you put any of his income on there anywhere?

Do you send for the ITTN first? or send the ITTN form with your filled out return?

Hey shrewdie, I just amended my 2006 tax returns to file as married using hubby's SSN. If you file your tax returns as "married filing separated" you will not need to declare his income. If you file as "married filing jointly" at this point you are stating that your hubby is allowing himself to be treated as a resident and it is at this point that you will need to declare his income earned worldwide. Going this route will allow you to take a tax credit for the taxes he has paid in Jamaica. You will need to fill out an additional form for his foreign income. I had also included a spreadsheet for how I worked out the USD equivalent of his income and taxes paid. His employer supplied us with a letter that stated his income earned in 2006 and 2007 and the taxes paid for both of these years. Much of this information I got from an IRS agent; here is the email answer that I got from them:

The Answer To Your Question Is:

Thank you for your inquiry regarding your 2006 tax return. We apologize for the delay.

You stated that your husband did not become a permanent resident until October 2007. In 2006 he was still a nonresident alien. Based on this information, a nonresident alien is not required to report foreign source income. However, since you are a United States, (U.S.) citizen, and if you choose to treat your spouse as a resident alien and file a joint return, your spouse's worldwide income must be included on your U.S. tax return. Please see Publication 54, Tax Guide for U.S. Citizens and Resident Aliens Abroad, for more information about filing a joint return.

If you choose to file as married filing separately, your nonresident alien spouse's foreign source income would not be reported on a U.S. tax return.

We hope this information is helpful. Thank you for using our service.

I will be doing the same thing for the 2007 taxes that we will be filing in a few weeks. Let me know if you need any additional information.

From what I read you send the ITIN at the same time as the 1040. I think you have to put his income down if it is over a certain amount cause then he would not be considered a dependent. I dont know all the logistics, because I havent read in depth all of what is needed for the ITIN. I know that I need a notorized copy of his passport, or a certified BC and something else. My cousin is a notary so I'll just have her notarize the passport when I get a copy from him next month.

I think I get a better tax cut for filing single instead of married filing separately.. I am so confused. Married filing separately works out to be the same in a refund as filing as single, from what I see. If I had amended my tax return to filing separately, I wouldn't have gotten anything back or owed the IRS anything.

When I spoke to the IRS agent, I specified the same thing that he was living in Jamaica for the entire time and it didn't change the answer they gave me.

Hi guys...

Many of you up here may not know me, but I've been around since '06 off and on. Well, I'm up here today because I'm a likkle troubled and I need the Yardie family's advice about what to do. So the deal is that I have this friend who at one time (briefly) dated a Jamaican man back in the summer of '05. Anyway, they talked off and on but by Dec. of '06 it was definitely over. She would call him all of the time, but he would never answer, claiming that the phone systems were down. (Granted I know Ja does have its phone issues on occasion, but this is not ALL of the time!) There was always an excuse as to why he couldn't call, but on the rare occasions he did speak to her, he would fill her head with talks of marriage, and them raising his daughter together in the States (blah, blah,blah)...Oh, I might have forgotten to mention that he's married (separated, and tells her that the church won't let him get a divorce, though they've been separated for 5 years supposedly!) Fastfoward to October 2006....This dude randomly calls my friend and asks her to pick him up @ the airport (she was in FL at the time). This after having not spoken to him in at least 5 months...she does...she finds out he has been in the states visiting friends for 4 months, and he hadn't even bothered to call her! He had been in Detroit, Arizona, and Maryland prior to coming to see her. She lets it ride, and lets him stay for 2 months until he has to leave because the resort re-opens after renovations. Before he leaves, she finds out she's pregnant (GASP! SURPRISE! :help::huh: ) He leaves and barely has contact with her anymore...even after the baby is born (July '07). She has tried contacting him, but he doesn't answer, and when he has answered, he always has an excuse as to why he can't come to visit. My favorite excuse is: The resort only has 3 bellhops and he's not allowed to leave and won't be able to in the foreseeable future. Now I might also believe it if my husband who works at the same resort hadn't said that they have at least 9 bellhops, and the resort hasn't been unusually busy. This dude came up to my husband last month and asked him about what papers he needed to file for a fiance visa. I was like #######?? Is my friend getting ready to file for this dude? So I call her to see if they had talked and she just hadnt mentioned it. She said she hadn't talked to him in forever, and she had no immediate plans to go down there, and since she hadn't heard from him in months she didn't think he had plans oon coming here...especially after their last convo. So, I sit on it, because I don't know what to do and my husband said to stay out of it. BUT THEN, he comes back a couple of weeks later to my husband and says not to worry because his lady is going to file the papers for him...now my mind is really jacked up because I'm like--YO!! This dude is really trying to be slick...and my biggest fear is that if someone does file for him, and he gets here, then he could turn off hs JA number and she would NEVER have a way to get in contact with him EVER again!!! And that pisses me off to no end! What I want to do is put his name on blast to warn anyone who may know him about what he is doing...I know it is controversial, but I want to do what I can to protect innocent women who really believe that this man loves them from making a huge mistake!! He is such an A!#@ and my husband despises him. Always has. What should I do? And how should I approach my friend to let her know what I know. Unfortunately, I wasn't blessed with tact, so I need to figure out my approach. Can you guys help? This dude really has my blood boiling because he is hurting SO many people!! Thanks for letting me vent!!
