I'm going to my first yoga class this morning. A treadclimer burns more calories than the treadmill and the elliptical. People are dropping tons of weight using that machine at our gym. I can only do 20 minutes...I'll work my way up to 60 minutes.

I gained almost 30 pounds when I stopped going to the gym. I have a serious workout plan so I can fit into my Carnival costume this June. I do at least 60 minutes of cardio every day. And I take kickboxing, African dance and belly dance 3 times a week.

Hi cejf.

I used to do belly dancing too! I don't know if I it got me in shape but it sure was fun! I haven't done it in awhile now. So what Carnival are you going to? I would love to go to Carnival in Trinidad! I am so obsessed with it and the beautiful costomes. Trying to prepare to become an H.O.

I just got in from the gym not too long ago and it was packed! Everyone's trying to stick to their resolutions. I had to wait 30 mins just to get on an elliptical machine

Ha ha, this is so funny cause I remember me and a friend used to be so mad come the new year and all these new people were in the gym upsetting the flow of our workout. We used to be like " I can't wait til these folks fall off their resolution". I know thats horrible, but come end of Feb it started getting back in order. I live in LA now and these folks are fitness freaks so its always packed no matter what time of the year.

But I hope you all stick to your guns and start to see those results cause thats the best feeling.

I'm thinking about going down for spring break (if the funds are right)...does anyone have any hotel suggestions? I've never been a tourist before except for last year when I went to Dunns River. I hear Negril is really nice but I'm open to Ochi or MoBay as well....I'm on a tight budget and I just want to get away for a couple days with my SO before I go to my grandmother's house in Mville.

I suggest Negril cause the price of hotels is really cheap if you are on a budget. Plus its really laid back if you really want to vacation. The nicest beaches in Jamaica I believe in many places. Lots of little private "lover" spots to hang with your man, beautiful sunsets, theres a club, and local bars that have live music too. I search for hotels by going to Negrilinfo.com and clicking the map and then I google the hotels on the map to find rates.

Ha ha about hubby telling you to "use" the house! I know what he means though. I used to be anti gyms cause it seemed so stupid to just run in place when i could get out and do something fun in the outdoors to exercise. Well that never seems to happen when you work all day and just need to run your own personal errands on the weekend....so the gym started making sense. I started pilates with the Winsor Pilates DVD. Its is the bomb! After about 1 month your but will be tighter and lifted and your thighs will be toned, plus you lose inches round your waist. Its fun too, when you get into it.

Mi always want do pilates but just never got around to buy the DVD

I know looking at the concret wall in my basement is no fun atall

I cannot stand treadmills. Actually anything with repeative motions for too long, drive me insane. I go to the YMCA to a class 3 mornings a week at 6 a.m. I've been dragging myself there for 5 years now. Andre goes from time to time to use the weight room. Mostly, he says he wants to go the next morning; but when I try to wake him, he begs off.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

I agree. I love Negril. That's where I met hubby, and it's where we usually stay when we visit, but I guess I need to check out other parts of the island as well. We've stayed at hotels with all price ranges, Cheap hotel are all over the place, I love the RIU we've been there three times. I have also stayed at the Negril beach Club Condo's as well as cheapy cheapy hotels.

I know..I need really great music to keep me goin and hubby ran off with my CD this morning. :help:

Mi kip weh fi 2 day and unnu change up pon mi. It's funny that you are all talking about getting into the gym. My butt is getting into the gym tomorrow. Hubby is going to be at school tomorrow night and I am going to take advantage of the 8 weeks at Bally's that I got free through the Discovery National Body Challenge. Mi ah try lose at least 20 lbs by the time the membership up. I need some motivation. Plus mi have my monthly membership to Planet Fitness. At $10 a month it is not a bad deal.

I pray that everyone realizes their fitness goals this year!

Hey Tam. I also joined the Discovery National Body Challenge. We got weighed in last week at the mall...they were giving away good freebies. I already have a gym membership but joined Bally's anyway for 8 weeks. I even joined in another town so I can go with my friend. But her lazy butt haven't signed up for her pass

Good luck to you.

My class is called belly dancehall...traditional belly dancing combined with the lastest dancehall music...lots of fun and we burn lots of calories dancing to soca music. I also take hip hop belly dancing every Thursday. Traditional belly dancing is boring.

My belly dancing class was in the Caribbean carnival in DC last June. We're doing it again this year but wearing body paint this year :help:

Hey all! Hope you all are doing ok!

Good luck to all those wanting to lose weight and get healthy this year! I have the same resolution...lose weight/eat better and drink more water. I have been doing this for one week now and I have already lost 2.7 pounds...I haven't even started working out yet.

I heard that when you overwhelm yourself with too many resolutions you usually end up giving up on them all so I am starting out small and once I have the eating healthier/drinking water thing down I will move on to the working out/getting more active aspect.

All those classes sound soooooo fun!!! We don't really have anything good around here and what we do have is so far from me it is hard to get motivated to drive 30 mins to the gym each way. Takes up way to much time in the evenings. Not to mention the cost! My work doesn't have any incentive programs or anything like some of yours have. I know my budget won't allow for a gym membership at this time. Not sure what I am going to do...probably work out tapes at home to start with til the weather gets better and I can walk/jog outside.

Does anyone know of good workout tapes for people with bad lower backs? I have tried a couple tapes that ended up just killing my lower back (I was in an accident as a teen and have had probs since). Any suggestions?

Hey Yardie wife, welcome back. I would think Pilates would be good; Marlita correct me if I am wrong, but it's a low impact workout. You can check if your local library has any tapes that you can rent and start working out with. I have fallen in love with my library, because I can get so many things there. It is such a far cry from the Kingston Public Library on Tom Redcam Road...

So, I`ve been driving up a storm, been out twice on my own....

My husband and I have been havng mega wars over me driving the truck - he thinks I should learn to drive the car `perfectly` first, my mother in law thinks I should be driving the truck to get used to it quicker...I`ve driven it twice and while t`s HUGE, I actually like driving it because it`s faster lol...He`s also banned me from driving with the baby in the car,but his mother and I boldly defy him...
