Somebody who knows the Jamaican school system, please tell me how children go about getting free lunch at school. Do they have to sign up, like here in the U.S.? Or is it just an automatic thing?

We've talked about this with my husbands daughter. Hubby said they have no such thing as "free lunch" They have to pay for it.

Not according to Gleaner articles the last few months and some other people I have talked to today.....What I have heard today you sign up for it at the individual schools and have to show proof of hardship.

Hey Jay, how are things going ?

We are doing fine. The paper work seems to never stop. I'm ready to send in the AOS package except for the sealed envelope. We took the Certificate of Immunization to a civil surgeon last week. They could not transfer the information to the right form because the date could not be read. So we are trying to contact Dr. Banbury's office to have the certificate faxed or emailed to us with a date that is legible. In a couple of weeks I'll be dealing with federal taxes and the W-7.

AOS Journey:

30-Aug-2007 Arrived in US!!!

27-Nov-2007 Married

23-Jan-2008 Mailed AOS package

25-Jan-2008 AOS package received in Chicago

1-Feb-2008 Checks cashed

4-Feb-2008 received NOA for I-485 & I-765 in the mail

22-Feb-2008 Biometrics Appointment

31-Mar-2008 EAD Card Production

5-Apr-2008 Received EAD in mail

8-Apr-2008 Applied for SS

19-May-2008 SS card arrived in mail

19-May-2008 AOS approval arrived in mail

Ah, the joys of immigration.

Good to hear from you, Jay.

Never ending is right, Kimmy. I'm kind of stressed about lifting conditions this coming August. Where are you on all that stuff, Kimmy?

Now, that sounds heavenly. We'll be there later this year. Jomo's looking into naturalization the year after that. So, hopefully, I can say I waved it goodbye for good next year. I'm tired of the neverending paperwork and BS!

Here's a couple of links a Jamaican on another web site gave me. (Couldn't get the second one to work so well.)

PATH: Programme of Advancement Through Health and Education

The web site of the link attached has more details of the GOJ's poverty programmes.

Actually Jay, I don't think you are eligible for W7 because your wife is eligible for a SSN. W7 is only if you are NOT eligible to file for a SSN. If she doesnt have her SSN yet, she will need to file for one instead of filing the W7.
