:jest: yup!!!! i think i am doing good when i only have to 2 times....but there are some nights where i should just sleep in the bathroom.....

Thanks for the congrats.

Oh isn't that the truth. I live in the bathroom. If I can wait more than 2 hours to enter the bathroom its a good day. Yes just wait till you are pregnant it suxs so much.

You ain't never lied I'm always in the bathroom already...haha.

I keep hearing about people paying "duty" on these packages they send. My husband has never had to pay duty. What makes you have to pay and not? I admit the shipping on this last sucker was ridiculous, but it was worth it, cause I won't see his family for awhile and its Christmas so I did a little extra. :luv:

I think it's over a certain amount and what the package contains...and sometimes how u ship it..if u ship like fedex I think

I have used Fed Ex and global express priority and both times had to pay. One time I sent a item that cost 6 dollars and he still ended up paying 12 dollars for it. What do you use that you don't have to pay?

We send gifts down sometimes in October with friends who study at my former alumni and when the school goes down in January and June now. We sent his mom a Christmas present in November.

Oh I see. Well I use good ole USPS! And the boxes are huge and heavy at times, he has never had to pay for them. I get insurance on them too from USPS. I ship standard or priority airmail. It takes a minute to get there but no duty! I don't know if that makes a difference that its USPS and not Fed Ex and such. But I get stuff shipped to me from all over the world through standard mail and never pay a duty either. I've had stuff come from Australia, China, and Britan. So maybe you should try that way.

GI Insurance

Jamaican airman Jones was assigned to the induction center, where he advised new recruits about

their government benefits, especially their GI insurance.

It wasn't long before Captain Smith noticed that this Jamaican airman was having a staggeringly high success-rate,

selling insurance to nearly 100% of the recruits he advised. Rather than ask about this, the Captain stood inthe back of the room and listened to Jones' sales pitch.

The Jamaican airman explained the basics of GI Insurance to the new recruits, and then said, "If yu have GI Insurance and go into battle and get killed, the government gwine pay $200,000 to yu family, but, If yu doan have GI insurance, and yu go into battle and get killed, the government only gwine pay a maximum of $6000."

"So," with a smile displaying his pearly whites concluded, "who yuh tink dem gwine send inna bakkle furst?"

I must've been a bad bad girl, cause Santa don't want to even cash my check that he's been holding for 2 months now!!! I am just wanting a stinkin NOA1 so I can log onto the website! :crying:

Hey Marlita!

I saw the thread you started in the CR1 section and how much attention it got. Just letting you know I fully support your idea. I'm actually gonna be basing my timeline off of yours. I'm still praying for your NOA girl.

I send packages to JA all the time to my SO. I use a service called Mailpac. The service only costs $35 per year. How it works is once you sign up (or ur hubby can sign up for it)...they give you a US address (in miami). So you send ur package from your location to the miami address. Mailpac ships all the packages out once/wk from Miami and it goes to Kingston. Your SO can then collect it from Kingston or have it mailed to wherever he is on the island.

The best thing about Mailpac is that you don't have to pay outrageous duties on the packages. They ask you what is inside and how much it is worth but you're the one that seals it so just tell them whatever lol.

I got a good laptop from Best Buy for $400 that my SO had sent me the money for. I mailed it to him through Mailpac and told them that the box had some old clothing in it that was only worth US$50. My SO only had to pay US$15 to collect it plus the Mailpac fees so it came up to about US$25.

I do business in Jamaica and am always sending things down. I've tried FedEx, UPS, AND DHL and they charge crazy prices for the duties and taxes and other fees. But Mailpac is the way to go

Here's the link

Mailpac - Jamaica

Oh, and if anyone knows of a good service to get things from JA to the US, please link me :help:

It seems that the package goes to alot of different places before it gets to your SO's hand. Does it take a long time to ship with Mailpac? I also write whatever on the outside of the package listing. I never say "exactly" whats in it. For christmas I listed it as old family ornaments.

Oh and that thread I started was RIDICULOUS! It got all outta control for me using the word "hault". I even took it back and apologized cause that's not what I was actually wanting to happen but that one AOS poster ran with it and then the thread was highjacked and know one actually got the real point of what I was saying. LOL! Thats the one thing I hate about forums, people really don't listen and can't actually understand your main motive just from text. I gave up on the thread and came back days later and saw all the drama and the closing. Anyway....I still think its unfair that I have no NOA1 and that others who have come in behind me do.

Gizzadas For Her Husband

An elderly Jamaican man lay dying in his bed. While suffering the agonies of impending death, he suddenly smelled the aroma of his favorite Jamaican pastry, 'Gizzada' wafting up the stairs. He gathered his remaining strength, and lifted himself from the bed. Leaning against the wall, he slowly made his way out of the bedroom, and with even greater effort, gripping the railing with both hands, he crawled downstairs. With labored breath, he leaned against the doorframe, gazing into the kitchen.

Were it not for death's agony, he would have thought himself already in heaven, for there, spread out upon waxed paper on the kitchen table were literally dozens of Gizzadas.

Was it heaven? Or was it one final act of heroic love from his devoted wife of sixty years, seeing to it that he left this world a happy man? Mustering one great final effort, he threw himself towards the table, landing on his knees in a rumpled posture. His parched lips parted, the wondrous taste of the Gizzada was already in his mouth, seemingly bringing him back to life.

The aged and withered hand trembled on its way to a Gizzada at the edge of the table, when it was suddenly smacked with a 'dutch-pot' by his wife......

'Move yu back-side!" she said, "Dem ya a fe you nine-nite."

I even took it back and apologized cause that's not what I was actually wanting to happen but that one AOS poster ran with it and then the thread was highjacked and know one actually got the real point of what I was saying. Yeah it goes to two locations before he gets it in his own hands. You said UPS has no duties?! I need to look into that.

I was surprised that they had closed the thread. And yeah, thats what I hate about forums too - when people misinterpret what they see written. Its a shame. I hope you get that NOA soon though so you can feel a little at ease. I just don't understand why CR1s are being pushed aside like that. It kinda makes me want to go the K1 route

Thank you Marie and Kimmy. Lawd...what an uproar Marlita's thread started. She raised some valid points, issues that I even had in my mind as well, but God's willing the NOA1's are on the way and NOA2 is not far behind. The worst part is putting all your things together and sending them off, not knowing where the documents are. You just want to know that everything reach its destination and not in whoi-whoi...
