Good Jax. Thanks for asking. How are you and the family doing? Any special programs at school?

Hey Michele. I am glad things are going well for you. My family is doing fine. I have a winter program next week to put on. We had our first winter program on Dec 7th and things went well. Sorry Dee - when did your hubby receive his green card? And when does it expire?

I think if you apply to lift conditions 90 days before the conditional green card expires then you'll recieve an extension letter so the green card holder can still be employed and travel abroad for one year. We'll filling our paperwork out now :dead: Trust me, I feel your pain. We'll work through the process together.

Happy Friday VJ family.

Growing Wild

One day a young Jamaican body builder who loved to tan himself looked down on his d**k and saw that it was the only area of his body that wasnt chocolate brown, so he decided that the next day he would go to the beach and get a tan on his d**k.

The next day he put on his trunks and lay down on his towel on the sand, put some suntan lotion on his ####### and left it out to tan.

Two old ladies were walking by and the one called Mary said,"But kiss mi rass Martha, yuh nuh si mi dying trial?"

So naturally martha waan know a wah.

Mary seh,"When mi a twenty mi fraid fi it,

when mi a thirty mi curious bout it,

when mi a forty mi caan get enuff a it,

when mi a fifty mi beg fi it,

when mi a sixty mi pay fi it.

And now mi a seventy, deh bloodcl**t sinting dem a grow wild an mi cyant ben dung."

From your timeline, I think I am reading that he has his green card and that next year you will be filing for removal of conditions. Is that right? If so, his green card is his work authorization. The EAD is really just work authorization in the interim till they get the green card.

When you file for the lifting of conditions, he will get a NOA in the mail that will extend everything another year past his green card expiration date. It will say just that.

My case completed October 26, still no interview date. I have called almost everyday this week, NOTHING!!! I called department of state and was told that Kingston is so backed up that it is taking close to six months once the case get tot he embassy. I really dont believe it when someone on here has an interview date for January with case complete a a couple weeks before mine. I have asked if it is undergoing some additional review, NO. if something is wrong, NO. I can not figure out what it could be. Anythoughts. Also how many people going through Jamaica have January interviews, because I am beginning to wonder if its just our case.

thanks

Jamaica's tourism in trouble - National Geographic

KERIL WRIGHT, Observer West reporter

Thursday, December 13, 2007

James Dion

CASTRIES, St Lucia -

Jamaica's tourism industry is in trouble, according to the National Geographic Traveler magazine's fourth annual Destination Scorecard survey.

The survey of 111 selected islands and archipelagos, which was conducted in conjunction with the National Geographic Centre for Sustainable Destinations, placed Jamaica in the bottom four with a score of 44, just ahead of Providenciales, Turks and Caicos, also with 44; Ibiza, Spain, with 37; and St Thomas, US Virgin Islands; also with 37.

"It's a troubling situation," noted associate director of the centre, James Dion, at the recently-concluded Caribbean Media Exchange on Sustainable Tourism (CMEx) conference held in St Lucia.

Speaking to a captive audience of media practitioners and tourism officials from around the Caribbean and North America, Dion said Jamaica, like it's other low-ranking counterparts was in danger of "tourism overkill".

"We are saying to these islands that if you follow this path (of development) it won't be one that leads to sustainability."

According to Dion, scores of 44 and below indicated that the industry in these islands was "in serious trouble" due to high levels of visitation by stopover visitors and cruise ship passengers, massive infrastructural development and increased outside influence in the industry. These factors, he said had resulted in a watering down of the cultural experience for visitors.

Ironically, he said that the islands which received a low score were regarded as the best-loved and most sought after destinations, but were in fact "literally loved to death" resulting in serious strain on the natural resources.

However, Dion insisted that this did not mean that the situation for these islands was irreversible. He noted that there were best practices in the Caribbean, citing the favourable ranking of Dominica and the Grenadines which both received scores of 77.

St Lucia, Bermuda, Tobago received rankings in the sixties.

Dion insisted that the governments of the islands which received low scores needed to look at policy direction and the stewardship of the industry to ensure sustainability of the environment for future generations.

"It's not about the development, it's about how you manage development," he said, adding that the centre was more than happy to work with any of the islands which was open to dialogue.

Media practitioners at the conference which ended on Sunday, criticised the survey, charging that it should not be taken as the final word on sustainable tourism.

The survey was conducted by a panel of 522 experts in sustainable tourism and destination stewardship with the assistance of George Washington University.

Africa Unite comes with Smile Jamaica and an array of international stars

Basil Walters, Observer staff reporter waltersb@jamaicaobserver.com

Friday, December 07, 2007

The Bob Marley/Rita Marley Foundation's global initiative, Africa Unite concert, will be held in Jamaica for the first time on February 23, 2008 at James Bond Beach, St Mary.

It will be a combination of two events with a host of national and international artistes at which the feature documentary, Africa Unite, will make its Caribbean debut as part of the celebrations marking the anniversary of the birth of late Reggae superstar Robert Nesta Marley.

The film, starring Rita Marley, Danny Glover, Angelique Kidjo, Lauryn Hill and the Marley children, is produced and directed by Stephanie Black of Life and Debt, H-2 Worker's fame. It will be launched in February 2008 at the Hilton Kingston Hotel.

People's Telecom will host the launch of the documentary which highlights the vision for African unity to which Bob Marley was devoted throughout his musical career.

"We feel extremely honoured now in 2007 to be asked by Mrs Rita Marley to host Africa Unite in 2008," stated Michael Dawson, CEO and co-founder of the Jamaican-owned telecommunications company.

"This is a perfect synergy between the Marley Foundation and People's Telecom, as the company, from the outset, was founded on the principles of stalwarts like Marcus Garvey and His Imperial Majesty (Haile Selassie I), and influenced by the words of Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer," Dawson added in a press release.

The month of February will be bursting with activities celebrating what would have been Bob Marley's 63rd birthday had he lived. In addition to the documentary launch, youth symposiums, lectures, and a Bob Marley football competition are planned.

On February 6, 2005, over 350,000 people gathered in the historic Meskel Square of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to celebrate what would have been Marley's 60th birthday. That 12-hour concert featuring a host of internationally acclaimed artistes is interwoven throughout the documentary, highlighting the reggae icon's global influence.

According to reports of the event, American singer Lauryn Hill passionately debuted new material; Benin-born Angelique Kidjo jumped into the audience during her performance; and Jamaica's Bob Andy serenaded the Ethiopian crowd with his timeless classics.

The concert culminated with a spectacular performance by Rita Marley along with the I-Threes and all Marley's sons singing their father's songs.

"Last year, Stephen Marley put together the Smile Jamaica concert and that worked very well, and then Mrs Marley, who has been doing Africa Unite for three years before that in Ethiopia, Ghana and in South Africa, decided to combine both," a source close to the event told Splash.

"While it is important to have it in Africa, she thought it important as well to have the Caribbean and the people of African descent to also unite as well. The idea is next year to have Smile Jamaica/Africa Unite combined as one event.

"The idea is to push a positive message, it's not just about Jamaicans, but Jamaicans need to think more Afrocentric. we'll be having a nice mixture of national and international artistes. We're working with Ghetto Youth International and the Bob Marley Group of Companies and Headline Entertainment is co-producing the event," the source said.

Not from the JP. Yes, the same place as the birth papers.....the RGD office. It must be official and stamped and all that.
