On a personal note,

I WANT the next president to reform healthcare and CHILDcare. I don't know if you remember the story on the news of the lady that left her 4 children in the storage unit at some storage facility so that she could go to work. That is were they were living...and that broke my heart. The lady was working, but she did not have anywhere to leave the children, so she locked them in the storge unit. Now, this lady did not want to lose her job, because of childcare issues, but she said she had no where to turn and no one to help her. She could not get help with childcare because she made offer the qualifying income. So, my question is, why can't there be some program that help people out that's trying to make it without turning to public assistance. My sis had to take a job making $6.00 less, just to be able to pay her rent, because CHILDcare is so expensive. Were I live in Maryland I see new properties going up everday, bigger and bigger and people are still homeless. I went back to work after my son was 4 months old and was paying $275 a week for childcare (I WANTED TO CRY...every time I wrote a check). I could not qualify for anybenefits, becuase I owned a house. That's what I was told. I know it's hard, I've worked in social services for many years and I some, people just need a little, just to get by, but I don't know, maybe I don't understand the system anymore. Don't even get me started on healthcare. I've protested, lobbied, protested and well, I guess the US doesn't not want to healthcare available for everyone. My friends in Canada and the UK and parts of Europe laughed when I told them I could only take 4 months off for maternity leave. The only reason I got 4 months is because the company I work for is located in DC...had I still be working in Maryland I would have only gotten 3 months. So, I hope and pray that this new president will bring some type of a reform. It's a shame when you see a working class family go bankrupt trying to take care of an ill child or an ill spouse. It's just sad in my eyes. So, I'll keep praying for REFORM.

six weeks is nothing, your body needs to rest and then with the stress of baby on top of that, u can't be focused when coming to work.

No Nanny,

You don't live with your parents you rent from them. This is where you pull out the rent reciept. Find your hustle.

How about when u go out for maternity leave. I know some who have used disability checks to qualify.

Hey, Irie....is your daughter in school? Does the school offer insurance for the school year? My kids get sent home with this phamplets every year that offer really affordable insurance during the school year.

ditto

Ditto ditto...you rent from them and every thing is separate

Hey Kimmy and all,

What a lot of women (men too) don't know is, if you live in the US (well, I'll swear for MD and DC) FMLA will protect your job for 3 months in Maryland and 4 months in DC. I don't get maternity leave either, but I save up my sick and vacation time. I think you have to work for a copy with over 50 employees and have been there a year, mi caan memba, but a sinting like that. They were pissed that I took the full 4 MONTHS, but I don't care. You're only a mommy for the FIRST time once. I don't know if I'll have anymore children, so, I wanted to spend as much time with my son as possible. Pluse I din't have to buy formula for my son until he reach 5 months old. While I was home I nursed him and pumped and stored my milk. I saved so much money, when I saw the cost of formula mi nearli dead.

So, Jengles, I feel you on that....I don't think any WOMAN should be rushed back to work after giving birth. Worse if a C-Section you get.

About the health care thing....you guys are so dead on!! The rich get richer, the poor have their services, but those in the middle...are SCREWED!! Me being one in the middle, I truly understand. I understand why some people stay poor and choose to get government assistance also cause once they break out of that "poverty" pay scale they really can't afford their basic needs, cause many of those services fromthe government they were using, will not be available to them. There is a service called Healthy Families that gives support to those who need help with their children....it provides medical and food for many cases....but if you make more than what they say you should you are nixed out. Then you have to rely on paying for your medical insurance thru your job which can be a whole butt load of money if you have may kids!

Its so unbalanced its ridiculous. Do you know that I couldn't get medi-CAL (California assited healthcare) when I was unemployed...because I was too old, had no children and made too much money previous to the unemployment!! But....get this...if you have a child you can get assistance at any age.....even if your an undocumented citizen/resident!! WTH!! yeah so there are way too many loopholes and discrepancies. I cannot WAIT for a new president!!

I just shake my head......I guess it's really sad to think that one of the wealthiest countries in the world can be this way towards its own people.....Are you sure that paying national insurance contributions will entitle your father to treatment??? I would advise him to make SURE this works!!!

I have not informed the UK I've left, trust me if need be, I'll be back on the first plane lol.....

I hear you on Obama.

My personal feeling about him is that he seems to HONESTLY want to help America. He seems to be about making it a better place rather than just wanting the power that comes with the presidency.

My husband is going to vote for him, always been for him.

I hope with all my heart he wins, because I feel Hilary wants the power and the glory of being the first woman president more than she wants it for the good of the people. I also think she wants this to prove to herself she's better than Bill, not a bad sentiment, but not one that benefits the interests of the American people.

You got it on point!
