I'm not cooking, but will take a nice pumpkin pie over to my friend's house... American enough?

it has to be baked by an american citizen... if not, doesn't count

A certified American citizen over here  And I'm deep south traditional (from Texas) - just don't ask me to eat colard greens

For non-traditional fare, we will be having stuffed grape leaves, roasted leg of lamb, rice with pine nuts and roasted almonds, hummos, and and a few arabic desserts since no one in our family likes pie.

dolma is the best. I think I'll get some of that from the local arabic grocery store! thx for the idea:)

what's wrong with cooking other than American food in thanksgiving??

specially if some family members ain't american, I understand the meaning of the day, but I don't think it'd make a difference if I eat turkey, menudo (good idea charles!!) or some coconut curry with goat meat

I didn't say there was anything wrong. She sounded like she had no idea what to cook and was thinking of something mexican but different. And I was just suggesting since it is an american holiday she could maybe go with the traditional holiday dishes. When in doubt, go with what's safe, you know what I mean?

Sometimes. Usually I'll go to either Wegman's or our local Arabic grocery store and get the ones they make, they put them on a buffet table type thing, I put them into my own container and pay by weight. It's expensive (comes to about $1 per) but good. I've tried the ones in the cans.. they're not too good.
